This blog is about uniting sexual and gender minorities in the fight for equality. We are about calling out those who discriminate, boycotting and protesting against those that seek to destroy our lives, and showing appreciation and support for those who have been allied with us in our fight for true liberation. It is without doubt that lesbian, gay, and bisexual people are fighting for genuine rights, such as the right to marry, adopt, serve openly in the military, donate blood, and be free... During the brief post-election season, critics have had many opportunities to problematize Obama's leftist credentials. Progressives, seemingly awakening from an Obama-Vegetative State , have complained about his Cabinet choices, his shifting position on war, and his decision to delay raising taxes on the wealthy and upon oil companies. In the latest progressive flap, GLBT rights groups are upset with Obama's decision to have Reverend Rick Warren perform the invocation at his inauguration... Read Full Story

(Photo: Courtesy Magnolia Pictures) Most people know at least one closet case. It's sad that many people have to live their true lives in secret, mostly because humanity isn't ready to make living the gay life bearable for everyone. So, in the interim, I guess we'll have to accept that there will always be stragglers, who aren't willing to deal with themselves just yet. Speaking of closet cases, Washington, D.C. is full of 'em. Maybe that's why J.R.'s is packed with guys in khakis and blue... Read Full Story
Normally, I would not care about the choice of an inauguration speaker. In fact, I rarely even watch inauguration ceremonies. I am pretty sure I watched Clinton's inauguration in 1993; I am more certain that I did not watch either of the Bushes'. But the more I listen to Rick Warren's anti-gay positions and to Obama's and his supporters responses to Warren's critics, I become increasingly troubled by his role at the inauguration. True to form, Obama defends picking Warren on the grounds that... Read Full Story

The measure amended California’s constitution to define marriage in heterosexual terms and reversed a state supreme court ruling which held that prohibiting same-sex marriage denied equal protection to gays and lesbians. According to exit polls, the measure passed by a vote of 52-48. President-elect Barack Obama, however, won the state by a 20-point margin. 70% of black voters supported the... Read Full Story
The California Supreme Court announced it will review the host of legal issues surrounding California's Proposition 8, which narrowly passed the November 4th statewide-vote. The challenge to the proposition was led by Lambda Legal (the oldest national organization dedicated to legal issues affecting the LGBT community), the ACLU (the largest organization committed to defending the US Constitution and Bill of Rights) and the NCLR (the largest national Latino Civil rights and advocacy... First on our list, is Whitney Houston. I think the whole world shuttered when she decided she wanted to marry Bobby Brown. I think if we took a poll on it, we'd have had much more than a simple majority, world wide, that would have stood in opposition to that marriage. I realize that Whitney has never blamed Bobby Brown for her fall from grace, and takes the responsibility for her actions, but we have to notice the time correlation between her marriage and her decline, and her divorce to... An hours-long protest took place on several LA area streets to protest the passage of Proposition 8, the initiative that bans same-sex marriage. Protesters headed for the temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, that has opposed same -sex marriage. The actual number of demonstrators is in dispute. A Los Angeles... Read Full Story
We know that gays and lesbians pay a huge price for being denied equal marriage rights, be it in the form of taxes and benefits, reinforced homophobia, or being told that we're less than straight people. But there's another group of folks who say they, too, pay a price for society not recognizing marriage equality, and they're the straight spouses of gay and lesbian people.
The what? Yup, the straight folks who fall in love with gays and lesbians that are in the closet, but feel the... Read Full Story
