Getty Images. Australian beauty Gemma Ward has been lying low for nearly two years now, having distanced herself from the modeling industry in the wake of the death of Heath Ledger , to whom she was romantically linked. This month, a spokeswoman for one of Ward's modeling agencies said that the statuesque 22-year-old is no longer interested in returning to the catwalks. This comes after months of vicious tabloid articles about Ward's body, with journalists speculating the top model had gained weight while struggling with depression. But even if Ward no longer wants to grace the pages of Vogue , she's still a photographer ... Read Full Story

At (huge) request, here’s a post on supermodel Gemma Ward’s weight gain & desire to quit modelling – The Daily Telegraph reports: SUPERMODEL Gemma Ward (22), the butt of attacks on an international fashion website for gaining weight, has revealed through her agent that she has no plans to return to her glittering career. A spokeswoman for modelling agency Viviens said Ward, who is based in New York, had no immediate plans to return to the industry. “Gemma hasn’t committed to returning to modelling any time soon,” she said, adding that Ward had the agency’s full support. This is not the first time Gemma ... Read Full Story

A few years ago, the fashion world was dying over the Australian-born, 17-year-old Gemma Ward. She was everywhere; like a less-bleached, non-Converse wearing Agyness Deyn. She then disappeared, did a few movies, and apparently ate a sandwich...or two. Now, perhaps spawned by blogger BryanBoy's comments on her recent weight gain she is back in the public eye. He commented that there was room for her in the plus-size category (fyi, just because you gain some weight does not mean you should just be shifted into the plus size division....there are also strict guidelines for those ladies, as well), to which she gave him and ... Australian former supermodel Gemma Ward, who was romantically linked to Heath Ledger, has apparently quit modelling. Ward, who earlier bore the brunt of scathing attacks on an international fashion website for gaining weight, has just turned 22 and celebrated her birthday in New York last week with close friend and Sports Illustrated swimwear model Jessica Gomes. The pretty blonde, who was reportedly hard hit by Ledger's death, enjoyed a thriving international modelling career from 2004 to 2007. She disappeared from the fashion industry after Ledger's tragic accidental death from a mix of prescription drugs in January, 2008. Now it has been revealed her agent ... Read Full Story

I won't spend too much time on this, because there are greater issues to cover. It does, however, deserve to be brought up. This goes back to previous posts I've made about the need to showcase beauty in all of its shapes and forms, not just one of them. I don't depend on Vogue to showcase very many models of color at all, but I figured with as much experience, prestige and longevity under its belt that it would have done a better job of representing the people it is marketing the magazines to. This is the cover of the inaugural issue of Vogue ... Read Full Story
The good news is Gemma Ward isn't retiring... again! After another flurry of will-she-or-won't-she-call-it-quits rumours, the Aussie model has set the record straight for the second, or perhaps the third time (I've lost count!).

Although Gemma Ward's agent recently said she was done with modeling, sparking speculation that her retirement had to do with her less model-esque weight of late, Gemma says she's not through with the biz. In fact, she intends to become a double slash: "I have not 'quit modelling' and my fans back home can expect to see me back at work modelling and acting in the new year," she said in an email to The West Australian. That's model...
