Auburn strong safety Zac Etheridge was released from the hospital Monday, two days after suffering a neck injury against Mississippi. Coach Gene Chizik said Monday that Auburn's medical staff is confident he will make a complete recovery. Chizik did not release details of the nature of Etheridge's injury and the junior is expected to miss the rest of the season. Etheridge was hurt Saturday when he collided headfirst with teammate Antonio Coleman early in the game while they were trying to... Read Full Story
The Auburn Tigers insist it's not the same. Sure, the Tigers' offense is struggling, the quarterback play is getting criticized and the team is under heavy fire for its play after a strong start. Just like last year. The difference, the players say, is the team is not divided after following a 5-0 start with three consecutive losses. "This is not last year's team," Auburn defensive end Antonio Coleman said. "It's a whole different team, a whole different scenario. We won't let it go downhill... Read Full Story
Toward the end of the third quarter, Auburn scored three touchdowns in about five minutes. That wasn't enough to prevent a swift fall from the Top 25 — or to give coach Gene Chizik much solace. The Tigers were held in check by an improving Arkansas defense, and their unbeaten run ended Saturday with a 44-23 loss to the Razorbacks. By Sunday afternoon, Auburn was unranked again after debuting at No. 17 in the previous poll. "If we're looking for warm and fuzzies ... They didn't quit," Chizik... Read Full Story
Auburn kept plugging away, winning games fairly easily and racking up yards. The Tigers didn't gripe publicly about not being ranked after opening the season with four straight wins, shrugging it off when the question came up. Now that they've cracked the polls at No. 17, linebacker Craig Stevens can talk about respect — or the perceived lack thereof. "It's always good just to have a sense of people noticing that we're playing well," Stevens said. "When we were 4-0 and still not in the top... Read Full Story
The first post for April 1. Happy April Fools Day. The Auburn Tigers were not able to get a practice in on Tuesday due to the rain, but practices will resume today. It sounds like Auburn head coach Gene Chizik has a cleanliness affliction. Since taking over the head coaching responsibilities, Chizik has implemented a new dress code for Auburn's football players and the locker room is expected to be tidy as all shoes and equipment must be perfectly put away. The new coaching staff has... Read Full Story
Head coach Gene Chizik was able to put his Tigers through about an hour's worth of practice outdoors before rain forced the team into the team's indoor practice facility. The team practiced in shells for the first time. When offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn was brought on to Chizik's staff, it was promised that Auburn would return to its roots as a run-first offense. It appears that the team is moving in that direction as most of the positive reviews from the coaching staff have been... Read Full Story
Well that's what Tom Luginbill, the national recruiting director of Scouts, Inc., stated at a meeting of the Huntsville, Alabama Quarterback Club this past Monday evening. Here's exactly what Luginbill had to say during a Q&A session: "Auburn was caught in a year when there was no splash hire to make. So my reaction to (Chizik) was that they went with what they were comfortable with and someone who has excellent recruiting roots in the state of Florida, which is important. I thought they... The decision to name Gene Chizik Head Football Coach of Auburn University is on par with John McCain’s decision to have Sarah Palin as his Vice Presidential running mate. Both decisions were clearly idiotic, choosing people of questionable talent over people with better talent and not factoring in public perception as a hiring criteria.
Gene Chizik had been the Head Football Coach of Iowa State where he had a two year record of 5-19. Before that he had been a very successful defensive... Read Full Story

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Auburn has hired Iowa State’s Gene Chizik as its new football coach.
In a stunning announcement Auburn hired a coach with a history of losing over applicants that won with far less. Chizik was 5-19 and did not win a conference game, while not facing any of the top teams in his conference. Turner Gill won the MAC championship at Buffalo… hello… Auburn is losing commitments with this hire and Alabama will reap the benefits of this decision... Read Full Story
Head coach Gene Chizik and staff put the team through a limited scrimmage on Wednesday. After the Tigers' practice Chizik reported that running backs Ben Tate and Onterio McCalebb both busted some good runs. He also said that there was no separation among the quarterbacks vying for the starting position. Otherwise, Chizik summarized the practice as saying the energy was good but as far as execution there was a little good and bad on both sides of the line of scrimmage. Wide receiver coach...
