Was Gene Chizik a "Hire of Convenience" for Auburn?

Well that's what Tom Luginbill, the national recruiting director of Scouts, Inc., stated at a meeting of the Huntsville, Alabama Quarterback Club this past Monday evening. Here's exactly what Luginbill had to say during a Q&A session:

"Auburn was caught in a year when there was no splash hire to make. So my reaction to (Chizik) was that they went with what they were comfortable with and someone who has excellent recruiting roots in the state of Florida, which is important.

I thought they made a hire of convenience. It might turn out to be the right guy. But it's not going to matter until they find a quarterback."

The questioning of this hire will continue until Coach Chizik can get a few wins behind him. How patient the Auburn faithful will be remains to be seen. Patience is not so much of a virtue in the world of SEC fandom. Read more about this here from the Huntsville Times' Paul Gattis.
