FOXBOROUGH — The New England Patriots' season began with Tom Brady back from torn knee ligaments. It ended with Wes Welker sidelined with the same serious injury. Not much else was consistent for a team that hoped to prolong its dynasty of the past decade with the return of its star quarterback.
