Not taking anything away from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory but I think I liked this original from 1971 just a tad bit better. Perhaps it's because with new version I knew what to expect so I was prepared for these children to be brats and get into trouble. Plus I've always loved Gene Wilder and he was great as usual in this movie. Charlie (Peter Ostrum) and Grandpa Joe (Jack Albertson) dream about finding the one of the lucky golden winning wrappers in Willy Wonka's contest. When... Read Full Story

Every now and then I just like to curl up with a mug of coffee in one hand, TV remote in the other and drift back to a time when the most violent thing children did was sneeze and no-one had even heard of Burger King or McDonalds. That's exactly what I've been doing today as I stepped back a little over thirty years to Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory . It's only with the benefit of hindsight that you realise just how wholesome the original version, starring Gene Wilder, actually was. I... Read Full Story

This one has me utterly stymied.
A horror version of Willy Wonka. While the other two Wonka incarnations (”Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory,” [1971] “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” [2005]) had many a creepy moment, I suppose a turn like this was inevitable.
