Kitsap Veterans Remember Pearl Harbor

From:  ipentimento.com
They Remember Kitsap County has a large military presence, with many veterans who settled here after their time in service.  Two months ago our local paper, the Kitsap Sun put out a request to the community for Pearl Harbor survivor’s to share their stories. There was an excellent article in the paper today with some of the veteran’s stories, but their web page has actual interviews of twelve who are still living to enable them to tell their stories. I know watching interviews can be... Read Full Story

Where are the Lost Court House Records?

Index to Lost Generations Series By Jeannette Holland Austin JOIN Pioneer News Lost Generations: Emerging Court House Records Fires and wars were the major culprit for destroying court house records. So why do certain books resurface? I was visiting Darien, Georgia during the 1960’s speaking to local families, when a lady came onto her porch with a ledge-style book in her hand. It was an old tax digest book from McIntosh County. The reason she had it? Her grandfather had been the... Read Full Story

Tombstones, Our Ancestors’ Monuments to Genealogy Research

Even before I began researching my Family History, I loved visiting Cemeteries.   Aunt Betty and I once found a grave completely capped in copper.   I wanted to know why, but there was no one to ask.   In Arizona I saw Tombstones of settlers marked with “Killed by Apaches.”   I wondered if Apaches marked their graves “Killed by Settlers.”   And the graves of my own ancestors caused me to ask if I looked like them, were they pirates and why were they were buried so far from where we lived... Summer Vacation Slide Show Pictures On iPentimento

From:  ipentimento.com
I hope you enjoy these photos I took while on our car trip to Iowa in July. It took three days to get to Iowa, and three to get back, and there was not a lot of time to take pictures other than out the window when we were going about 80 mph.   Aren’t the garden art pictures just wonderful? We took them in the side yard of the iron works shop, not thinking about anything other than capturing the beauty of the art. The artist happened by, and we complimented him on his craftsmanship. Duh... Read Full Story

16 Great-Great-Grands of Carol Yates Wilkerson

From:  ipentimento.com
I might be late with this, but I figured it was “better late than never”, right? FTM doesn’t have a ahnentafel feature that will show just the great-great grandparents, so I had to improvise and do a custom report. It really wasn’t that difficult, other than I hadn’t done it before. Randy Seaver at Genea-Musings did this for Saturday night genealogy fun, but we were home late on Sat. night, so I’m doing it on Monday.  Thanks Randy! It kind of goes without saying that I am a combination of... Read Full Story

A Family Builder Association

From:  ipentimento.com
You may notice a new advert here on iPentimento | Genealogy and History. I was contacted by Familybuilder and asked to be an associate/partner.  I have had my DNA (and my brother's) done, but it wasn't using Familybuilder . From what I have read of other people's experiences with them though, they have been very happy with the results and followup resources. Truthfully, very few people know how to decipher the DNA results, and if any company that is offering DNA testing isn't making it... Read Full Story

Tombstone Tuesday: Confederate Burial in New Jersey

From:  ipentimento.com
For this Tombstone Tuesday, I think it's only fitting that I should acknowledge the death of James Barnard Morrison so close to the date that he died, June 12, 1864.  Yes, it was during the time of the Civil War and yet, part of me feels bad that he had to die so far from home, at Finn's Point National Cemetery in New Jersey. (I have the roster of those who died there if anyone needs a lookup). James was the son of John and Molly (Deatherage) Morrison who, at the time the Civil War began... Read Full Story
