A community portal about Generation X with blogs, videos, and photos. According to Wikipedia.org: Generation X is a phrase used to describe the profusion of people born following the peak of the post-Second World War baby boom, especially in North America. The exact demographic boundaries of Generation X are not well defined: persons born between 1963-1975 are generally considered "Gen X'ers", while others use the term to describe anyone who was a twentysomething sometime during the 1990's. The term is used in demography, the social sciences, and marketing, though it is most often used in popular culture. The generation's influence over pop culture began in the 1980s and may have peaked in the 1990s.
CHICAGO — They're antsy and edgy, tired of waiting for promotion opportunities at work as their elders put off retirement. A good number of them are just waiting for the economy to pick up so they can hop to the next job, find something more fulfilling and get what they think they deserve. Oh, and they want work-life balance, too.
Sounds like Gen Y, the so-called "entitlement generation," right?
Not necessarily, say people who track...

For most Boomers (born 1950s and 60s), the office had the best technology – much better than they had at home. I started work at KPMG Johannesburg in the early 1990s, when they had just imported over 100 Apple System 7 “luggable” computers. This gave KPMG more computing power than the USA government [...]

photo via erin_m Generation X may still be the most dubious generation when it comes to trusting government, but based on the civic health index study by the National Conference on Citizenship , Gen Xers outdistance Baby Boomers in volunteering and even outperform retired seniors. In addition, Gen X is .4 (please note that point) percent behind Gen Y, who in many cases were required to volunteer in high school and college, and certainly had more opportunities to volunteer. Most stunning of all, however, is that according to a report released by the U.S. Census Bureau , in the November 2008 election Gen Y ...

Enjoy the journey, Gen X. The time will pass soon enough, no? photo by robert According to an article written by Martha Irvine, a reporter with the Associated Press (Chicago), Gen X is growing antsy and discontent in their jobs. This story has been told 100 times, but for some reason, I'm always surprised to see it get ink again. There is at least one major news story about this every month. The bullet points are all the same. Boomers aren't retiring and making way for Gen X. Gen X is weary of responsibility without authority. Gen X has lost itself in an overwhelming ...

Sgt. Kimberly Munley with Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates. Image by The U.S. Army via Flickr. In an effort to point out the amazing things Generation X women are doing across the nation, I decided to point out three right here close to home. The first is the most obvious. Sgt. Kimberly Munley, 34, the Fort Hood Hero. A fellow Okie blogger sent me a link an article in the Washington Post . In true Gen X mom fashion she was coordinating daycare for her two-year-old via cell phone while helping guide fellow soldiers in applying a tourniquet. Her femoral artery was pierced by ...
