Geophysics, the study of the earth by quantitative physical methods, especially by seismic reflection and refraction, geodesy, gravity, magnetic, electrical, electromagnetic, and radioactivity methods.
"The aspect of what we are doing goes beyond research
it's more along the lines of a service mission for the University," said Dr. Robert Herrmann, Otto Nuttli professor of geophysics.
The Department of Geophysics recently received a $121,000 grant from the United States Geological Survey under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
