This is an amazing little poem by George Carlin. It deals with the prejudice so many people, particularly guys, faced in the late 60's/early 70's when they decided to grow their hair long. I hope it inspires you all to grow, or keep your hair long!
It comes from George's May 2, 1972 appearance on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, one of the many he made.
RIP George - truly one of the giants of comedy!

George Carlin just got better and more scathing with age. In the posthumous semiautobiography “Last Words,” Carlin candidly guides the reader through the cycle of rise and fall and rise again that characterized his career. Comedy’s cuddliest caustic critic exposes all, even the major petards he hoisted upon himself: drugs and the IRS. A combination of frantic schedule and escalating health problems prevented Carlin from completing a series of...

Calling George Carlin a "comedian" describes his work as inadequately as "painter" describes Francis Bacon or "guitarist" BB King. No one understood better that comedy at its best is a dark and beautiful art.

The late great George Carlin’s final book, appropriately titled Last Words, is set to be released tomorrow (11/10) and raises an obvious question: what words could George Carlin possibly have left unspoken? Carlin’s breathtaking razor-cut comedy gave personal license to several generations of comedians – and millions of fans – to say “Fuck it!” and let the truth fly fast and furious. He taught us, by example, that there are no thoughts too...

Matt Davis says he always knew he would become a comedian. While growing up in Alabama during the early '90s, he was weaned on Bill Cosby records."I was just 12 and I couldn't get enough of Bill," Davis said. "Then I would slip down at night and watch comedians with my parents on late-night television."At 14, Davis caught George Carlin live. "I was blown away by Carlin and I still am," he said. "He was so incredible. He wasn't just a comic. He...

'Maslow said the fully realized man does not identify with the local group. When I saw that I thought: bingo! I do not identify with the local group, I do not feel a part of it. I really have never felt like a participant, I’ve always felt like an observer. Always. I only identified this in retrospect, way after the fact, that I have been on the outside, and I don’t like being on the inside. I don’t like being in their world. I’ve never felt...
