George Lucas Hasn't Seen the New 'Star Wars' Trailer
Luke and Leia's creator doesn't seem too excited about J.J. Abrams' take on the franchise.
The first trailer for Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens has taken the internet by storm. It's on pace to become one of the most-viewed trailers ever made, but there's one guy who reportedly hasn't seen it yet: Star Wars creator George Lucas.
According to Page Six (not exactly a bastion of veracity online so take this with a grain of salt), Lucas responded surprisingly when asked if he had seen the new trailer: "I don’t know anything about it. I haven’t seen it yet.”
When asked why not, Lucas said, "Because it’s not in the movie theater. I like going to the movies and watching the whole thing there...I plan to see it when it’s released.”
So maybe he's just trailer-averse, not J.J. Abrams-averse, but reports like this won't help Lucas' already tarnished reputation amongst Star Wars fans. He's now known more for the lackluster, CGI-heavy prequels (The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith) than he is for the fantastic original trilogy (A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi).
Abrams is directing The Force Awakens and even though Lucas may not be all that pumped about it, the internet is. Watch it again while we've got you in the mood:
“I plan to see it when it’s released.”
