Adding a big arm to their bullpen, the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers acquired former All-Star closer George Sherrill from the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday for two minor leaguers. The rebuilding Orioles receive third baseman Josh Bell and right-hander Steve Johnson, both of whom were at Double-A Chattanooga. Sherrill has 20 saves for last-place Baltimore and gives Los Angeles, with the best record in the NL, a left-handed complement to All-Star closer Jonathan Broxton. Sherrill is expected to join the Dodgers on Friday in Atlanta. "It's a great move for us," Broxton said. "It gives us an extra arm, and he's got some innings ... Read Full Story

The Mariner’s bullpen this year is one of the most interesting components of the team, in part of how it was built. The Mariner bullpen is full of guys who can throw fast. The bullpen has 5 players whose fastballs have averaged around 93mph or higher this season. These guys are Shawn Kelly, David Aardsma , Sean White, and of course, Mark Lowe and Brandon Morrow. It’s an odd collection and certainly a departure from the days of junkballers such as RA Dickey, Sean Green, and George Sherrill . One of the advantages to our current bullpen is that, outside of Miguel Batista, who ... Read Full Story

In an attempt the fill the gap at the tail-end of their bullpen, the Baltimore Orioles have given the closer's job to George Sherrill . Rich Hill threw seven scoreless innings, Adam Jones and George Sherrill came up big against their former team and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Seattle Mariners 1-0 on Monday night. The Orioles sent former ace Erik Bedard to the Mariners for top outfield prospect Jones, reliever Sherrill and three other players in 2008. While Bedard has been hampered by injuries, Jones and Sherrill have flourished in Baltimore. Jones doubled and scored the only run Tuesday night on a sacrifice fly by Aubrey Huff off Jarrod Washburn (3-4) in the sixth inning. Since the blunder that sent George Sherrill, Adam "I'm not Pacman" Jones, Chris Tillman, and two others for Erik Bedard, the Seattle Mariners have played as if they were trying to win a Class 3A high school championship, not a World Series. However, there has been a shift in the AL West. Now the Angels are Lackey-ing a solid rotation and will lose both Vlad the Impaler and Chone Figgins. The Athletics, who, despite terrific bullpen play, are...
