San Francisco pranksters rename Bush Street
Pranksters in San Francisco on Tuesday celebrated Barack Obama's inauguration by temporarily re-naming the city's Bush Street in honor of the new president, officials said.
"Bush" signs were covered with similar-looking "Obama" stickers early Tuesday. Within a few hours, city workers were removing the unofficial logos -- which had the same color, font and print as the real signs.
"Our crews are still working on removing the stickers," said Judson True, a spokesman for the Municipal Transportation Agency. "I have asked for an estimate of how many there were, but I don't have one yet."
Photos posted on www.laughingsquid.com showed a couple altering the signs, as well as someone apparently creating the OBAMA stickers. Photos of the changed signs were posted on Flickr by several passersby.
The sign cover-up was the latest slap in San Francisco at former president George W. Bush. Last November, voters rejected a city measure that would have renamed a wastewater treatment plant as the George W. Bush Sewage Plant.
Supporters said the tongue-in-cheek proposal was intended to commemorate what they claimed was the mess Bush left behind.
