CCTV images of a blonde girl seen just days ago with a dark-haired woman in Belgium are being enhanced in the US amid hopes they show missing Maddie.

A bank security guard who saw the pair and raised the alarm is convinced it is the British youngster who disappeared on a family holiday to Portugal last year, The Sun reports.

The CCTV footage is being studied by police and has been passed to parents Kate and Gerry McCann to see if they can recognise the child as their daughter.

The guard said he became suspicious of the pair and followed them into the street, where he heard the girl say: “Can we go back now?”

McCann spokesman Clarence Mitchell told The Sun: “Kate and Gerry have seen the material. It is being enhanced as a priority in the United States.”
