Birth in your 40's now is considered to be late, yet it was quite common in previous centuries. Women have been having babies well into their 40's, and even their 50's - since the beginning of time.
"In 2005, there were more than 104,000 births in the United States to women ages 40 through 44, and over 6,500 to women 45 and older. In 2004, there were 1,786 live births to women over 42, using donor eggs."

Couples should be given three free cycles of IVF to fight the "social disorder" of infertility, a leading expert has claimed. Sam Abdalla, medical director of the Lister Fertility Clinic in London, said the NHS was failing to implement a 2004 NICE directive calling for free treatment. "Infertility is not only a disease, it is also a social disorder with a profound effect on the individual, the family and wider society," Mr Abdalla said. The doctor is offering 21 free cycles of IVF to mark the 21st birthday of the Lister Fertility Clinic , treatment at which has resulted in more than 10,000 births. ...

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Though the use of fertility drugs does not seem to generally increase uterine cancer risk, a Danish study identified small increases in risk from certain fertility drugs used for longer duration. Dr. Allan Jensen, with the Danish Cancer Society in Copenhagen, and colleagues identified higher uterine cancer risk among women who used follicle-stimulating hormone and human menopausal gonadotropin (hMG) for more than 10 years. They saw similar risk among women who ever took six or more cycles of clomiphene, an established treatment for women not ovulating normally, or when clomiphene did not work, when women were injected with six ...

CINCINNATI -- Some couples unable to get pregnant have turned to an unusual form of adoption. The couples are getting pregnant with another couples' embryo. Jennifer Schanne and her husband endured four miscarriages before turning to in-vitro fertilization. "We froze our embryos in case something didn't work or we only had one baby. We knew we wanted to have more then one," said Schanne. After twins Cooper and Clair were born, the couple debated about what to do with the nine embryos that they didn't use. Read more... Question about finding risk statistics for early pregnancy. I am newly pregnant and am a 'facts and figures' type person and really want to find out what the likelihood is of early miscarriage, 'missed abortion', ectopic and molar pregnancies in the first trimester. I know that early miscarriages are not at all uncommon, but I need numbers!

A doctor based in Greenwich, Connecticut lost his New York medical license after admitting to using the wrong sperm to impregnate a woman who subsequently gave birth to twins. But Ben Ramaley is still permitted to practice gynecology and obstetrics in Connecticut, though perhaps not for much longer. A new software technology is helping to reduce the risk of laboratory errors in infertility treatment, by electronically identifying the sperm, eggs, resulting embryos and other materials used in in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment cycles. Using non-invasive Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), IVF Witness(TM) can track a patient's sperm, eggs and embryos during the course of treatment. If the wrong material is introduced in the lab...
