The Girl Scouts of North Central Alabama organize a celebrity chef cookie challenge to see which local chef can create the best dish using Girl Scout cookies as the base ingredient. Last year we made Peanut Butter Cheesecake Bites using Do-Si-Dos for the crumb crust. Our creation was delicious but we didn't win. That honor went to a caterer who created a savory chicken casserole using Lemonades, the round lemon-flavored shortbread cookies. The Holiday Edition of Tuscaloosa Magazine featured our recipe for Dulce De Leche Gelato, a recipe that combines a caramel gelato base with crushed Dulce De Leche, the Latin caramel cookies. We ... I have to admit I am a Girl Scout cookie junkie!  I LOVE Girl Scout cookies (especially those Thin Mints)...however, the catch is that I have a medical condition that prohibits me from eating cookies, so what's a girl to do when approached by all those Girl Scout moms to help their child's troop and support the Girl Scouts by buying boxes of yummy cookies?  Now a normal person would say "just buy them and let your hubby and daughter consume all that delicious goodness."  But, I don't think it's fair to make my husband and daughter eat boxes of Girl Scout cookies (of course, they are ... Girl Scout cookie pre- orders are down 19%. The question is when Dear Leader Obama will step in to solve the worst Girl Scout cookie crisis in the history of Girl Scout cookie crises. There's a common theme in today's laugh, but it's a scary theme. A theme even Bill Clinton mentioned in a recent interview, even though he partook in the theme for his 1992 election bid. For liberals to have a crisis, it has to be the worst crisis in the history of all similar crises. Here's Tim Slagle , a comedian from Chicago addressing this theme. Have a great weekend! Well we didn't win but we had a good time. And we learned a few things about what can be done with Girl Scout Cookies , besides making our Sinful Mint Gelato at this year's Celebrity Chef Cookie Challenge: Tiramisu. That creamy Italian dessert which is usually made with ladyfingers soaked in Marsala wine can also be made from Trefoils soaked in liqueur. I am not sure if that's really why they won but I would have voted for it too if I wasn't competing... Lemon Lavender Cheesecake. Lemon and lavender scented cheesecake sitting in a crust made from Lemon Chalet Cremes. Truffles. Like ... Read Full Story

The first record of cookie sales by an individual scout unit was by the Mistletoe Troop in Muskogee, Oklahoma, in December 1917. In 1922, the Girl Scout magazine The American Girl suggested cookie sales as a fund-raiser and provided recipes. In 1933, Girl Scouts in Philadelphia organized the first official sale, selling homemade cookies in the windows of local utility companies. The first Girl Scout cookie recipe was a sugar cookie. In 1936 the national organization began licensing commercial bakers to produce cookies. The Boy Scouts had the original idea of selling food (popcorn) in 1914. Later, they invented tagalongs (peanut butter patties) and gave the idea to the Girl Scouts in 1956.[citation needed]

During World War II the Girl Scouts sold calendars rather than cookies, due to shortages of flour, sugar, and butter.
