Lenami Godinez-Avila had just started a tandem hang-gliding flight with an instructor, a gift from her boyfriend, when she fell from the glider, plunging hundreds of feet to her death Saturday in a heavily wooded part of western Canada, authorities say.  

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, May 2 (UPI) -- The pilot of a hang-glider from which a woman fell to her death allegedly swallowed a video memory card afterwards, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said.  

Lenami Godinez was celebrating an anniversary on Saturday with her boyfriend. Local hang glider pilot Jon Orders was celebrating his 50th birthday when he met the pair. Money changed hands, waivers were signed, and Ms. Godinez was handed a safety harness to wear.

But Steve Parson, a Canadian pilot who was convicted of manslaughter in New Zealand in 2010 after he failed to hook his female passenger into the glider, is still offering tandem flights on Vancouver Island on his website despite not being a member.
