The planned Gulf single currency is unlikely to be launched soon as "sufficient time" is needed for preparations, Kuwait's Finance Minister Mustafa al-Shamali said on Tuesday. "The Gulf single currency is not happening tomorrow or the day after. It needs sufficient time," the minister told parliament during a debate on the ratification of the Gulf monetary council pact. Gulf states plan to launch their monetary council, a precursor for a joint central bank, in 2010 but the planned single currency may be delayed, the Saudi central bank chief said on Sunday. "The (Gulf) monetary council will be established in 2010. When I read this I wasn’t in the least surprised with the plan. Forget about the next 9 years, the previous five years have seen a regular rise in the price of tobacco products already, so the established trend is just set to continue. Who suffers?
