Great men have fought for less; brave men have died for more. Hereto I speak of what is to come. Our revolution, although it be won, has yet to be decided. America the land of the free shall need constant vigilance of its freedom, lest it be lost to the tyrants of history. Regardless the cost of the individual or the earth itself, man cannot be free without the guard watched tirelessly; for even the guard comes to know fatigue and regret and temptation. Men governing man shall be tempted by the throngs of power and the lust therein. No man shall prove himself ... Read Full Story

After twenty-eight years the man that failed in all he did as President, has continued his damaging ways. This week he (Carter) met with Hamas, I might add... against the wishes of MY American Government. Why is this so important? Well, it looks horrible when a Former President goes against the wishes of the current Administration. It makes it look like there is no respect between parties (not to mention the two men) ...oh yeah...there isn't! I forgot for a second there. When Pel-lousy went to Syria against the wishes of this government and others, she made a damned fool of herself and of ... Read Full Story

For every mile you walk, you burn about 250 calories. How much do North Koreans take that into account as they attempt to walk into South Korea and China? Surely they are aware of the shoot-to-kill orders issued to North Korean border guards. On the Chinese side of the boarder, Chinese border guards invade the homes of ethnic Koreans living in China who may be harboring refugees from starvation. Biofuels, increased food demand in developing countries and the high cost of fuel are taking the blame for the current world crisis but there are many reasons more people are hungry right now. Global warming ... Read Full Story

Kids see what Wise Grown-Ups fail to Notice Dear Editor,  One evening I was in a busy street of New Baneswore in Kathmandu. Suddenly I noticed a balloon-seller on a bicycle targeting his trade on little kids. He was really busy. Some kids were with their mothers, and some others were with their fathers. All parents were happily conceding to their kids’ demand of buying the balloons.  Suddenly a middle-aged woman was seen walking with her daughter. Her bodice was tattered. Like all other kids, the small girl also asked her mother to buy a balloon. The mother lamented of not having ... Read Full Story

Photo retrieved from: http://albanysinsanity.wnymedia.net/blogs/files/2007 ... Bill, you have been an inspiration to myself as well as many others through the years. However, this statement that the American flag lapel pin is trivial...is ridiculous! It is not trivial and I will tell you why! America is looking to elect a PRESIDENT! One that believes in their values. After 911, Americans wore flags, waved flags, attached flags to their cars, and windows, jackets and just about anywhere else you can imagine. We showed support of this country in every way possible...yet, there stood alone a single man an un-American man, that would not show his support ... Read Full Story
Wishful thinking or apocalyptic doom forecasting? Fred Curtis, an economist at Drew University, has put together a mashup of peak oil, global warming, and patterns in global trade liberalization and arrived at the principle of "Peak Globalization." (Found via Globalisation and the Environment.) A double whammy of higher energy costs and extreme climate events will disrupt global transportation patterns, reversing the historical trend towards...

Filed under: International markets, RecessionOne aspect of globalization -- basically free markets and the transfer of jobs to lower labor cost production centers -- that remains a high research priority for many economists studying markets is consumer spending. Or, more specifically, where are all the new, international consumers going to come from? That's because the world in this early stage of the globalization era has an abundance of...

NEW HAVEN — Admittedly alternating between roles as “gracious host” and “aggressive moderator,” Yale University President Richard C. Levin Thursday pressed former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and former Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo on a broad array of questions regarding globalization, from ongoing climate talks in Copenhagen to views on the conflict in Afghanistan.

Regarding Ramzy Baroud's Nov. 21 article, "Globalization: a culture killer": I completely disagree with the premise. In my opinion, globalization is the best thing that has happened in global politics and economics for a long time. The development of communications, transportation and information technology allows us to exploit a tremendous potential that was untapped before. The whole world is a playground provided one is able to rise to the...

Robert Salomon submits: The Economist posted a nice chart this week of the number of mentions of the word “Globalization” in their magazine since 1979 (see Going Global). It seems that the number of mentions grew briskly through the dawning of the new millennium, with a drop-off after the dotcom bust. The number of mentions picked up once again from 2005-2007, but has tailed off since the start of the financial crisis.Complete Story »
