For the past year, in an effort to eat healthier I have almost crossed ice cream off the menu. I broke that trend yesterday after reading Kid's stuff (FT Week End) which covered 2 California ice-cream makers La Loo's and Ici . As I was jotting down my food shopping list, I found out that one of my local supermarkets (Kings) offered some of La Loo's flavors on sale. If you’ve been avoiding ice cream because you’re lactose intolerant, try goat milk ice cream. Almost half of people who are lactose intolerant are able to drink goat’s milk. Laloo’s is a great example of goat milk ice cream. Karen Leland, author of an article entitled Got Goat? on Hitched Magazine’s website writes, “ As ice cream goes, Laloo’s is not only delightfully good, but also reasonably good for you. Goat’s milk is low in lactose and an excellent substitute for those who can’t tolerate milk. Even if you can eat dairy, Laloo’s contains almost half the calories of most premium ice cream and ... Oh, boy I have been busy and I have some things to share with you. First my poor husband had an allergic reaction to the hay! Yes, all that hay that you see on the trailer (down a few post) well it got in his chest and he had a very hard time with it. That left me to do that job. That's right this girl moved all that hay at 55-60 lbs each by herself (the hay in the picture below wasn't the ONLY hay we had to get. Yes, believe it or not we have lots more to unload. We still have ... Read Full Story

I ran across this little farm in Canada and the post below on making goat cheese caught my eye. The owner of Joybilee Farms in Canada writes: Now that the garden has been blasted with frost, I have time to make cheese. Our pure bredSaanan milk goats give us two gallons of milk every morning. We milk only in the mornings...

The other day, I was reflecting to a time in my life about twenty-five years ago when I raised a few dairy goats on a little "farm" in North Texas. And, lately, I've been thinking about goats again. And recently started reading some "Goat Blogs." Mary at Annie's Goat Hill is one of them. As a matter of fact - she makes (and sells) goat soap and lotion of which I recently sent in my second order cause I LOVE the stuff! On a side note about...
