Conservatory of the Flowers Dutch Windmill The end of Golden Gate Park...at the ocean. The Cliff House is in the distance. Okay, so I've been to Golden Gate Park several times. However, this is the first time I really and truly realized just how big of a park it is and how many different things are encompassed in the park. First of all, I didn't actually realize that the edge of the park was the Great Highway, which is the road running along the ocean. Nor, did I realize that when I was looking at the map of Golden Gate Park trying to figure ... Read Full Story

Sunday (5/11/08) was filled with activity. We took a cab to the Golden Gate Park, the Exploratorium and the Palace of Fine Arts. The Golden Gate Park is HUGE so if you ever go, wear your tennis shoes and be prepared to walk for days! It is bigger than Central Park and is the largest urban park in the United States. The Golden Gate Park is comprised of wilderness, museums, playgrounds, two lakes and a music concourse. Some notable features of the park include the Japanese Tea Gardens, the de Young Museum and the San Francisco Botanical Garden. We ate lunch at the de ... Read Full Story

The Conservatory of Flowers, located in Golden Gate Park is currently featuring “Edible Expeditions” through November 1, 2009. This display features exotic plants from around the world which are also edible or related to edible plants. Throughout the Conservatory are many orchids. In the room featuring the “Edible Expedition” exhibit there are many flowers and plants that can be eaten, such as pineapple, cocoa plants, and star fruit. Apparently, we just missed a start fruit earlier in the week. On my last visit to San Francisco, I went to the Conservatory of Flowers for the first time. This time, there were some different flowers, ... Read Full Story

The Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park was originally developed for the 1894 World's Fair in San Francisco. It is a tourist must, as evidenced by the number of tourists who go. However, there are peaceful areas of the garden (such as the Zen garden) and the landscape is definitely worth the time. You can also relax and partake of the tea (or other refreshments) and cookies or crackers (I like the little sesame crackers) at the tea house. The tea house is a nice break if you have been checking out some of the other activities in Golden Gate Park. Admission is ... Read Full Story

This weekend I had the chance to go to San Francisco and experience some of its beauty.  One thing that I thought was amazing was the Golden Gate Park.  My wife had seen this article in one of the Via (AAA Insurance Magazine) Magazine Issue, where it had this underground garden.  We went to try and find it but had no luck until we were flipping through some street magazine that we picked up while in the town on Friday.  We seen the same thing she was looking for.  We spent the night and went to see it the next day.  We walked over ... Conservatory of Flowers:

Since 1879, locals and visitors have marveled at San Francisco's Conservatory of Flowers, the oldest glass-and-wood Victorian greenhouse in the Western Hemisphere and home to more than 10,000 plants from around the globe.

The Conservancy of Flowers was damaged by a 1995 storm and closed to the public for eight years, and is finally open again after a $25 million restoration.

The plant life inside the Conservancy of Flowers is spectacular. Located beneath the conservatory dome, the warmest and most humid section of the building, is the conservatory's prized century-old imperial philodendron.

The east wing houses the Highland Tropics collection and aquatic plants display (including real lily pads that can hold the weight of a small child), while the west side is dedicated to seasonal flowering plants and educational exhibits (the first, all about plant pollination, features 800 live butterflies that will flit about among the visitors.)

Signs are kept to a minimum so visitors can simply soak up the beauty. Located at the eastern end of the park, just off Conservatory Drive. For visitors' information, see their Web site.
