Jennifer Aniston to Sing in 'The Goree Girls'

Having proven herself as an established actress with multiple award nominations and wins, Jennifer Aniston will do something she never did before in a feature film, singing. Marc Malkin of E! News has come up with the revelation, stating that the 40-year-old will do her own singing part in "The Goree Girls".

About Aniston's showing off her pipes, director Michael Sucsy assured E! that the star of "Marley & Me" can indeed sing. The filmmaker furthermore added that in addition to the singing, Aniston will also play an instrument. "And she's going to learn how to play the Dobro [guitar]," he gushed.

The director also explained that in casting the singing inmates, he isn't looking for real-life musicians. "These women learned to harmonize and they learned to play instruments," he said. "They weren't these amazing, accomplished singers who banded together. That's what's interesting about it."

"It's not just like, 'Hey, you can play the guitar, I can play the piano, I can play the harmonica. Let's put a band together,' " he moreover elaborated his comment. "It's like, 'We have to get out of jail, and if we have to put a band together to do that, then that's what we're going to do.' "

"The Goree Girls" tells the true story of an all-female country band in a Texas prison in the 1940s. It will mark "Grey Gardens" helmer Michael Sucsy feature directorial debut. Sucsy will polish the most recent draft by John Lee Hancock, who polished an original by Margaret Nagle based on Skip Hollandsworth's 2003 Texas Monthly article.

Sucsy's version will follow the eight women who formed one of the first all-girl C&W; acts in the country, became a public favorite and were eventually pardoned. Headlining this drama feature, Jennifer Aniston will also serve as its producer. Production is set to start in January 2010, but no release date has been set just yet.
