Romney recently delivered his "Faith in America" speech, designed to address concerns about his Mormom faith. The speech was widely distributed and influenced the political news cycle.
Mormon church to build 5 new temples worldwide
Mormon church president Thomas S. Monson has announced plans to build five new temples in the U.S. and abroad.
Monson said Saturday that the temples will be built in Brigham City, Utah; Concepcion, Chile; Fortalenza, Brazil; Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and Sapporo, Japan.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints already has 130 temples operating worldwide. Another 16 are either planned or already under construction.
Temples are considered sacred to Latter-day Saints and are used for religious rituals including proxy baptisms, marriage ceremonies known as sealings and other ceremonies designed to strengthen church teachings.
Monson's announcement came during the opening session of the church's two-day semiannual general conference in Salt lake City.
