It’s unconfirmed at this point, but rumour has it that the first Android device- the T-Mobile G1 is getting an over-the-air update Eclair build. The rumour doesn’t point out which variant the G1 is getting though, but it’ll either 2.0 or 2.1. Owners of T-Mobile’s G1 phone might be getting the latest version of Google’s Android operating system, if rumors are to be believed. The rumor, credited to an “anonymous source”, says that G1 owners will get an over-the-air update to the Eclair build – either Android 2.0 or perhaps even the latest Android 2.1 build on the Nexus One (aka Google Phone ). If true, it would be welcome news for G1 owners, who increasingly feel left behind with the release of the Droid and imminent launch of... Read Full Story

Google’s Android Market growth has not been as fast or furious as Apple’s App Store, however, as more Android handsets are sold, that’s expected to change.
In fact, the Android Market may have as many as 150,000 apps by the end of 2010, according to Flurry, a mobile-application analytics firm, which merged with Pinch Media yesterday. In November, Apple said it had around 100,000 apps for the iPhone, which completely... Read Full Story

We wouldn’t be surprised if the next rumor to spread about the Nexus One is that it will be initially in beta, like all of Google’s products.
But for now, Engadget reports that the phone will be available only by “invitation,” just like how Google ( NSDQ: GOOG ) slowly provides access to other services, like Google Voice and Google Wave. Details on how the invites will be passed out are not clear, but potentially... Read Full Story
As stringent (and arguably overzealous) as Apple’s App review policy is, things still slip through the cracks from time to time. I mean, who can forget the infamous baby shaking simulator slip-up? The latest bit of contraband to hit the App Store isn’t nearly as offensive – that is, unless you’re Nintendo.
Earlier today, an application called “Nescaline” popped up on the App Store. Everything about the application, from the name, to the copyrighted icon, to the very functionality of the... Read Full Story

A hailstorm of reports came out over the weekend after Google ( NSDQ: GOOG ) gave its global workforce a cellphone. Reports quickly concluded that this provides confirmation that the search company is indeed building a branded phone of its own.
But now, a number of naysayers are questioning whether this is actually true, or whether this phone represents business as usual for all parties involved. Google provides the... Read Full Story
It’s still a rumor, but most media, including WSJ (subscription), reported that Google is indeed developing a device called Nexus that Android will be sold without a plan. This would mean that it is a GSM phone. Google currently provides the operating system for handset makers like HTC and Motorola, and it is not clear how they will react to the fact that Google is designing a phone. They have probably been informed at the highest level already. Read more

" The Google Phone, Unlocked" is a Seeking Alpha article detailing the early release of a Google phone planned for market introduction in 2010. Will this be successful or not? Legitimate question - given the success of Apple's iPhone. And the answer to that really has nothing to do with cell phone technology. It has everything to do with the downloadable applications . The market for phones has shifted to where applications are rapidly becoming more important than the phones themselves... Read Full Story
