A community portal about Greek mythology with blogs, videos, and photos. According to Wikipedia.org: Greek mythology is a corpus of mythological stories created by the ancient Greeks, concerning their gods and heroes, the nature of the world and their own cult and ritual practices. Modern scholars referred to the myths and studied them in an attempt to throw light on the religious and political institutions of ancient Greece and, in general, on the ancient Greek civilization.

In classical-era mythology, twelve Gods ruled from Mt. Olympus. Zeus was considered the king of the Gods and Hera his queen. This pantheon of twelve Gods and Goddesses are considered the Olympians, representing the nature of man and his need for war, love and death. The mythology of Greece tells the story of five Goddesses who ruled along with seven Gods from Mt. Olympus .  Hera is considered the queen of the Greek Gods, both wife and sister to Zeus according to Greek mythology.  Greek mythology cast the goddesses as the protectors and manipulators of the feminine side of human existence.  The Greek Goddesses are in control of love, fertility and the fruit of the Earth.  Just as the Gods of Mt. Olympus are powerful but imperfect, they can possess great wisdom and tremendous flaws.  Hera The Goddess Hera was wife to Zeus, both born to Cronus and Rhea.  ... Read Full Story

Sagittarius the Archer: My take… Sagittarius is a half human, half horse, known in Greek mythology, as Centaurs. This creature is featured a lot in Greek mythology, and is always cast as being the obnoxious, drunk, cheating horribly violent creatures. One, however, was different. Enter the ’special one’, Chiron. This particular Centaur was educated, kind, thoughtful and gentle. So much so that Chiron became known for his wisdom, and began to teach; imparting his knowledge on all manner of pupils, the mighty Hercules included! The tale talks of an incident in which Hercules sets about drinking the wine, belonging to the Centaurs. This obviously ... Read Full Story

According to ancient Greek mythology a ferocious three-headed dog named Cerberus guarded the gates of the underworld and kept the dead from rejoining the living. I’ve got issues with that. Not with the concept; an awesome monster-dog at the gates is much more entertaining than an old bouncer that looks like Santa in a bath robe checking names against the naughty/nice list to see who can get into heaven. Mine is an issue with semantics. I have a friend who’s expecting (or more accurately his girlfriend is expecting) and he thinks that based on the size of her belly that they will be having ... Shrapnel is like a mash-up of some of my favorite things: take Gattaca, throw in two parts Halo and a little bit of Greek mythology and Joan of Arc, and you’re getting close. And paired with Bagus Hutomo’s eye-popping paint-like illustrations, and you’ve got a recipe for a compelling graphic novel. Thanks to Radical Publishing, I [...]
