TUPPER LAKE - The Wild Center is the most decorated green building complex in the Adirondacks, and the Center announced recently that it would host a special day in October for builders and regional leaders to learn about the newest techniques and technologies of green building.  

In Broken Arrow, Okla., Craig Thurmond is struggling with the role of government in the green-building movement. A building consultant and City Council member, Thurmond leads a committee sifting through proposals to put green in Broken Arrow’s building codes.  

Sunnyvale will start rolling out a beefed-up citywide green building program in 2009, with more rigorous green building requirements and incentives to be phased in each year until 2012.

Green building practices will be closely studied in a panel discussion, sponsored by INdiana Sustainability Alliance (INSA), at 5 p.m., Sept. 17, at Vectren Corp., 211 NW Riverside Dr.  

As energy costs rise, more states and cities are adopting policies that encourage or require new construction to be energy-efficient. That's according to the U.S. Green Building Council, a private group that tracks legislation and sets guidelines that become construction industry standards.  

HARTFORD, Conn.----The U.S. Green Building Council reports that by 2010, the value of green building construction is projected to increase to $60 billion, with approximately 10 percent of new commercial construction starts expected to be green.
