Practical Dog Obedience Training Tips

By Dan

Dogs are generally considered man's best friends. It is not a surprise then to see dog owners taking much of their time teaching their pets to follow commands. However, since dog training normally involves a great deal of time, most dog owners have somehow started relying for quick and easy to follow dog training tips. Dog are very smart creatures after all but then there may be times they tend to misbehave. Therefore, if you are a dog owner, there are basically a lot of dog obedience training tips you can try to consider, whether you are still a new owner or already an experienced one.

Of the many types of dog trainings, potty training is perhaps the most important and crucial one. Most dog owners are having quite a hard time potty training their dogs. The key here is to start buying a bell and then tying this bell on your doorknobs. Before you go out with your dog, be sure that you ring the bell and say "Gotta go potty? Gotta go outside?" Doing this often will help your dogs in getting familiar with the approach. They will then understand that when they ring the bell, it simply means they wish to go outside and do potty. However, dog owners should be wary at times since there are some instances that dogs ring the bell not because nature calls but because they want to go out. To avoid this, accompany your dogs especially when they are still starting to learn potty training. Make sure they really do potty and nothing else. Once your dog does this correctly, give him praises afterwards.

In dog obedience trainings, treats are very important. Prepare some treats when you do dog trainings as this will serve as the rewards for your dogs. When teaching them how to 'sit', start by standing in front of your dog and be sure he is attentively facing at you as well. Say 'sit' and then firmly push him down until he is already seated. Reward him the moment he does the command properly. If you wish to teach them how to lay down, make your pet dogs sit before gently pushing their legs apart until they are already lying down. When you do this, make sure you say 'lie down' so he will be familiar with the command. Do this method until your dogs can finally follow the command without you guiding them. As always, have your treats handy. 'Shake' is also another training dog owners want to teach their dogs. To start, let your dogs sit down and then grab their paw gently as you simultaneously say 'shake'. Continue doing this until your dogs are already familiar with the command. And always do not forget to give them treats when they perform commands correctly.

Dog owners also want to teach their dogs how to do 'bye-bye'. Although this is quite hard, you can actually teach this trick to your dogs but be sure the dog is already trained with the 'shake' command. Start by gently grabbing his paw the same way you do when training the 'shake' command. However, when the dog is already in the 'shake' position, move your hands up and down and say 'bye-bye'. Your dogs can easily familiarize this when this is often done. Just make sure treats come in handy as you go with your training.
