Qualifier Evgeny Korolev defeated American Robert Kendrick 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 Wednesday to move into the quarterfinals of the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships. The 105th-ranked Korolev double-faulted twice at 30-30 to lose his serve in the first game of the second set and trailed 0-2. But the Russian rallied to win six of the next seven games. Two seeds are into the semifinals at Gstaad while other 2 felt to do so. Stanislas Wawrinka, top seed, defeated Guillermo Cañas, 8th seed, in a great battle that a tie break in the third decide in favor of the local favorite. Mikhail Youzhny, 3rd seed, also had to work hard during 3 sets but it was not enough, he was defeated by Guillermo Garcia-Lopez. Greensboro's John Isner began his final Australian Open preparations Tuesday with a first-round victory at the Heineken Open in Auckland, New Zealand. Isner beat Spain's Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 4-6, 7-6 (3), 6-2.
