The Rogue Starter Acoustic Guitar is an amazing deal for a small-bodied guitar. The smaller profile is very playable for kids, has nice tone, and can be yours for chump change. It has a maple neck and rosewood fretboard and comes set up with Martin strings.

"Quite good for the price" 2009-09-21
By Michael A. Duvernois (Minneapolis, MN United States)
If the price wasn't included, this would be more like a 2-3 star review. You do get what you pay for, but in this case you get quite a bit for the money. The instrument is decently finished, was setup acceptably for kids (if you know guitars you can fiddle with it a little a get it setup better, this is too inexpensive of an instrument to take it to a shop to setup), sounded alright, and is fairly robustly made.

Look around at different dealers on amazon and in the physical world, especially close to the holidays, and you can find this guitar offered with a bag, extra strings, and a couple of picks for the same price as just the guitar.

 "Blue Rogue guitar" 2009-07-07
By Anthony James Hayes
I got the blue Rogue guitar today. I read the reviews for this before ordering on amazon and I'm wondering if I'm supposed to get additional things like a bag, extra strings, picks and such.

 "Awesome...." 2009-06-30
By T'keyah Daley
Wow! I was so happy I received my guitar. It came even earlier than the scheduled date. All I really had to do was tune it up...which was pretty easy. It sounds perfect! I think it was a pretty good deal. My only complaint is for beginners. Your fingers WILL hurt. But don't worry, that's what callouses are for. ^_^

It doesn't come with a bag or picks, so I suggest you purchase them together if you can.

"You get what you pay for!" 2009-03-14
By Dr Bob ZzZ (SLC, UT USA)
I purchased this guitar as a Christmas gift for my 8 year old son. Upon receiving the guitar, I tested it out (I have played for 30+ years, and have owned several guitars including a 1976 Gibson Les Paul) and was disappointed with the craftsmanship. I ended up with cuts on my left hand from the unfinished frets. I spent 1+ hours filing the frets smooth (a delicate operation if you wish to avoid disturbing the finish on the neck). Otherwise the crafstmanship was okay.

I was also disappointed with the sound quality (dull and flat). I know it was a $50 guitar! I also purchased a Rogue RA-100D Dreadnought guitar for my older son, and the sound quality of that guitar was lightyears better than this starter guitar (the cost of the RA-100D was about $80). I would recommend spending the extra $30. I should point out that the RA-100D also required 1+ hours of fret filing, as the condition was substantially the same for both guitars. I would also recommend the Yamaha JR-1 3/4 scale accustic guitar at $119 over this one. The craftsmanship of the Yamaha JR-1 was excellent, and the sound was comparable to the Rogue RA-100D. My opinion is that for new accoustic guitars below about $80, the quality drops off significantly.

I would only recommend this guitar to the most price conscious buyer with reduced quality expectations. I would highly recommend that anyone who purchases this product for a child to check the frets before handing it to the child. I give this guitar 3 stars only because of the low price.

 "Price says it all" 2009-02-16
By E. L. Jennings (Mississippi, USA)
The plus side: it came with a bag, 2 picks, tune pipe, strap and extra strings. It came in tune and sounded good. Great for learning on but definitely buy a new one once you've become good at playing.

The bad news: The seller failed to mention that it's a classical or spanish style guitar (you can tell by the head) and not your traditional acoustic guitar. If you don't know guitars then you wouldn't notice the spanish head or that Martin strings are nylon strings that can only be used on classical guitars so don't buy steel strings. Even though I got 2 picks you really can't pick nylon strings that much or they'll break so that was useless to send. It had dents on the bottom and was also chipped like it had been dropped once. The color would've been great except it arrived with smudges all over it that I can't seem to wipe off.
