Tim Russert: Warmly remembered on ‘Meet the Press’

Tim Russert’s chair was empty on “Meet the Press” on Sunday, two days after his unexpected death. But Russert was very much present on the full-hour tribute to this giant of political journalism who hosted NBC’s public-affairs program for more than 16 years. “His voice has been stilled,” began Tom Brokaw, who led the conversation, “and our issue this sad Sunday morning is remembering and honoring our colleague and our friend ….” Brokaw and a half-dozen others were seated in front of... PBS’s Gwen Ifill will moderate tonight’s Vice Presidential Debate despite controversy over her politically liberal views. For the past few days, there has been a lot of controversy over the moderator of tonight’s Vice Presidential Debate, Gwen Ifill. VP debate moderator releasing Obama-friendly book (Update)

This recent revelation seen on the Drudge Report and first reported by WorldNetDaily is questionable with regard to political motivations and the fact that the book has been no secret for months now. Thursday night’s VP debate moderator, Gwen Ifill from PBS News, is set to release a book about post-racial politics on inauguration day in 2009. The book is not centered on Obama, however, from the description it appears give him favorable praise. You can view the Amazon.com product page here... Read Full Story

Gwen Ifill & Fighting the Smears

This may come as a shock to some, but even journalists have personal lives and hold political opinions. Their job is to set those opinions aside and be objective when reporting on an issue. No one has ever impugned Gwen Ifill’s integrity in any serious way, mostly because her most recent position is with the uber-wonky Lehrer Report, which is quite literally the antithesis of the garbage available on the more popular cable news nets. The fact that Gwen Ifill is penning a book about... Read Full Story

Gwen Ifill Should Step Down As Moderator of the V-P Debate

It would seem Gwen Ifill has a conflict of interest and the honorable thing to do would be step aside and let someone else moderate Thursday's debate in St. Louis between Republican Sarah Palin and Barack Obama. Ifill, who hosts Washington week on PBS and is seen as a commentator on many Sunday morning news shows, is writing a pro-Obama book due out in November entitled " The Breakthrough." Wouldn't it help her book sales if Obama wins? Of course it would. There is nothing wrong with being... Read Full Story

McWhorter Watch: John McWhorter on Joe Wilson, Jimmy Carter, and the “Racist” Label

Manhattan Institute Fellow and Former UC Berkeley Linguistics Professor John McWhorter *** On a recent episode of the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, John McWhorter illustrated, once again, how curiously complex (a sometimes contradictory) his perspectives on race really are. Many have called McWhorter a Black conservative, but that is not quite an accurate assessment. In fact, McWhorter’s views on race and racism seem largely inspired by his own experience as a highly-educated Black... Read Full Story

Gwen Ifill - Moderating Vice Presidential Debate

From:  striversrow.com
Ms. Gwen Ifill was recently selected to moderate the first vice presidential debate. Excerpt: "Given the extraordinary attention paid to the campaign and Palin's surprise selection as John McCain's running mate, it stands a strong chance of becoming the most-watched vice presidential debate ever. The standard was the 56.7 million viewers in 1984, when Geraldine Ferraro was the first woman ever selected for a major party ticket. Ifill, moderator of PBS' "Washington Week" and senior...
