Local Government Survey
The results of the recently completed survey have been collated and are online at:
http://www.gympiemayor.com/survey-results/
The results reveal that the current Council has lost touch with the majority of ordinary residents and lacks consistency and integrity in making decisions. The results show that:
- 90% of respondents want divisional representation where they have a representative on Council who is more likely to be familiar with their local issues
- 95% of respondents want better consultation and the use of surveys for better community decision making
- 98% want their Councillors to present their issues in Council and represent them properly.
- 97% want better prioritisation of expenditure to fix road before recreation
- 94% want Council to better oppose the Traveston dam
- 97% want better openness and accountability without secret meetings
- 97% believe that Mayor should not be double dipping on his salary
- 95% would not vote for a political party
- 95% believe that staff reports should not be altered to change outcomes that benefit staff the Mayor and senior staff
- 95% will not vote for a Mayor that has been given 3 new luxury cars in 3 years
- 97% will not vote for a Mayor who protects his mates from prosecution or instructs staff to provide freebies to those mates
These results will assist us in developing our selection criteria for preferred candidates for election to Gympie Regional Council.
We would like to thank the people who took to time to participate in this survey that confirms that a major overhaul in Council is past due to introduce consistency, integrity and real representation for the residents of the new Gympie Regional Council.
