It is located in Istanbul, Turkey. It is traditionally considered one of the great buildings in history. Its conquest by the Ottomans at the fall of Constantinople is considered one of the great tragedies of Christianity by the Greek Orthodox faithful.
I took this photo at dusk while traveling in Istanbul, Turkey. It captures the beauty of the Hagia Sophia, once the world's largest cathedral, now a museum. Around it you can see the nice landscaping and blueish skies. It was quite a sight. Read Full Story
Perhaps this is too hard a hill to climb for Turkey - upholding the human rights of all its citizens including those of its religious minorities. I don't think they understand - that they have to do these insignificant things to get into Europe! The verdict condemns the Turkish state for improperly taking over the orphanage of Buyukada, on the Marmara Sea. In its ruling is also extremely important for religious minorities on Turkish soil. Istanbul (AsiaNews) - With a unanimous verdict (7... Read Full Story

Let’s take a look at some divinely designed churches around the world, both classic and modern in style: 1. Hallgrímskirkja Built in 17th century, Hallgrímskirkja is the... Read Full Story

[Image: Inside Hagia Sophia ; via ]. While scuba diving beneath Hagia Sophia , an exploratory team led by filmmaker Goksel Gülensoy has "managed to reach areas that until now, no one had ever managed to reach," down there in flooded basins 1000 feet beneath Istanbul's heavily touristed religious structure. In the process, they have discovered 800-year old submerged graves containing the remains of "canonized children." This was just part of a larger, underwater archaeo-spatial survey: The... It is typical of Islamic behavior around the world - expect all - give little or nothing in return. In the west Muslims build mosques - have schools for their clergy - but even in Turkey the same for Christians has not been extended. I think Muslims expect that if they shout Islamophobia loud enough - then no one will notice how they treat others - within their own communities. The head of EU enlargement has said that the accession process of Turkey also depends on the Halki school, an... Read Full Story
From here : How do you evaluate the meetings you had at the Ecumenical Patriarchate during your present stay at the Phanar? "It has been a wonderful couple of days; we have had an opportunity to talk with several people at the Phanar about our ecumenical relations, about our hopes, our anxieties because both of churches are facing considerable problems at the moment. We talked very honestly and very helpful about that and it has been an immense privilege and joy to be with the Patriarch, to... Read Full Story
Hagia Sophia also known as "tent of the heavens" is a mammoth structure originally built by the emperor Constantine on the shores of river Bosporus in A.D. 326. The destruction had occurred in 532, during the reign of Justinian the Builder, who started the reconstruction of Hagia Sophia only after 39 days after the destruction. Justinian embellished the interior... Read Full Story
