Some Spooky Thoughts For A Homemade Halloween Costume
By Jim Samposzi
Halloween is a festive and joyous holiday for individuals of all ages and from all walks of life. Adults still participate in Halloween, so it is therefore fun for all. Children walk the streets in search of candy at the same time adults are getting together to throw parties. Halloween parties are exciting for you get to dress up in whatever you wish to make people laugh, create fear, create a shock, or amazed - at Halloween, anything can be a costume.
Halloween suits can be reasonable in price at some stores, or quite expensive in some specialty-type stores. It really depends on how life-like the buyer wants the getup to be and if the buyer is shopping in a novelty store. Department stores carry Halloween costumes for cheap but quality demands a higher price. In some novelty/specialty type stores, high-end Halloween costumes can cost hundreds.
You do not always need to buy a Halloween costume to join in the festivities, you can always make your own. Making a costume is exciting and very inexpensive - sometimes it costs nothing! Most, if not all of the materials you need, you can find in your home. Some of the most creative homemade suits for Halloween are:
* Hippie - To throw this together, you have to riffle in the old ancient storage closets full of them, mothers' and fathers' closets, or a consignment store. No matter how you come up with these old rags, make sure all articles appear to be vintage sixties. Dress it up including beads, colored shades, a headband, and old sandals.
* Old Man or Woman - For the guy, you need some dark slacks, cuffed on bottom, a walking stick, and grey hair. For the woman, an old plaid or other skirt that drops below the knees, rolled up knee-high stockings, oxfords, and a huge pocket book - and add silver hair to top it off. And, if you can come up with a walker the final version will be all the better.
* Mummy - Wrap yourself in gauze. Although you can use toilet paper, gauze is much better. You can seal the gauze up with honey or paste of some kind. Also, paint your face white and add age and cracked lines on the face. You can also add green paint over the body to signify mold.
* Cereal Killer - Put an empty cereal box on the chest. Get a knife handle (MAKE SURE THERE IS NO METAL LEFT OVER FROM THE BLADE) and attach the knife handle inwards tothe box facing out from your body to make it look like the knife is stabbed into the box. Drip red paint or candle-wax to complete the costume.
* Cigarette - Wear all white (the main part) and slide your feet into light brown footwear (the filter). After this, paint your hair red (flame); you can further include baby powder to activate it to produce plumes or clouds of smoke.
There are a great many costumes a person can produce by just gathering a few everyday products that you find in the home. You shouldn't always have to buy costumes; you can make one just as good, and if not, better, by being creative and constructing the thing yourself - you might be surprised at just how creative you are!
