It was inevitable that some day Hamilton Tiger Cat fans would no longer hear the names of two of their all time favourite players being called out over the loud speaker. Yesterday was that sad day, the Cats announced the release of linebacker Rob Hitchcock and wide receiver Mike Morreale. It wasn't a big shock, it was obvious that the best playing days where behind both players and it was best for both players to go while they where on top. Like any loss of this calibre though, it will be extremely tough to fill the void left by these Canadian hero's. Hitchcock played ... Read Full Story

Hamilton's famous downtown eyesore the Lister Block has been under a dark cloud of pessimism for more than a decade. The plywood boards covering the grand buildings history from prying eyes have become home for every poster hanger and pigeon in the city. The gloom surrounding the building is so thick the only ones enjoying the site are the reported "spirits" from times past that are said to roam the interiors. Some of the stale air was lifted yesterday, when Premier Dalton McGuinty made yet another election-campaign stop here to announce that the provincial government will give Hamilton $7 million toward redevelopment of the ... The awards for those who made the headlines in 2006 in the spirit of this site. The nominees where taken from the many posts I made this year and cover local, canadian and international persons that made headlines. Welcome to the second annual "Kenaz Awards". Still no glitz, no glamour, no expensive bling. Just a cold beer and some cheese to celebrate the stories that made you cheer, jeer, get angry, cry or say 'Good lord!". Missed The Boat Award Doh! Dare to Dream?(Hamilton City Hall) "We are being culturally integrated into the U.S. and our politicians are not doing anything about it"(Federal leaders for not making ... Read Full Story

Oops! They did it again. Like Britney, it seems like Hamilton City Council on a regular basis finds themselves exposing their vulnerabilities for everyone to see. They bickered for more than thirty years over Red Hill Creek; poured millions into changing directions of streets only to make downtown a traffic nightmare; squandered the Maple Leaf Foods deal that cost thousands of jobs; chased every millionaire who even whispered the hint of moving an NHL team without offering a shred of evidence Hamilton can even support a team and lost the bid to host the Commonwealth Games, twice. Now, the "old guard", old in the ... Read Full Story

The only thing missing was the eerie violin music, the stogies and the dimly lit backroom, but all the characters of a scene straight out of the 'Godfather' where present. Sam 'The Bully' Merulla played the lead thug, trying to persuade Bob 'Red Light' Bratina and Brian 'Flip-Flop' McHattie into back tracking on their decision to agree with a transit fare hike. All under the cover of an off camera, extremely fishy out of chambers meeting. Here's how the scene played out. Twenty four hours after Merulla had a tantrum worthy of cheap award show nod for best villain, calling McHattie a 'hypocrite' and ... Read Full Story
Remembering Norm Marshall as the consummate professional and Hamilton legend. The Hamilton broadcasting icon died at his Burlington home November 5,2008. He was 89. Marshall began his career with CKTB in St. Catharines as a teenager singing on air before moving to CHML in Hamilton in 1940. It...

Hamilton is currently in a state of upheaval -- Mohawk College, McMaster Children's Hospital, Joseph Brant Hospital and the City of Hamilton are all searching for candidates to fill top positions -- and recent changes to CHCH contribute to my feeling the city is losing it's identity. The station...

The group of good ol' boys that make up the Hamilton Police Service board once again showed how incompetent they are. The "Thin Blue Line" that protects Kevin Dhinsa should be replaced with a "Wailing Wall" of outrage from everyone -- women and real men who care about them, taxpayers...

Hamilton's Man of steel, Ralph SazioSazio was a strict disciplinarian who brought high-spirited Angelo Mosca into line when Big Ang came from stints with Ottawa and Montreal. "He said 'One slip and you're gone.' And Ang was fine." Mosca laughed when remembering his relationship with his...

When it comes to electing people to city government, voter turnout is often embarrassingly apathetic commonly hovering just over 30 per cent in Hamilton. But this doesn't stop us from bitching about the problems with the pivotal services the city provides like water we drink, the transit we ride...

Update from a post from 21/10/06,A man stepping off a bus and grabbed by two cops and thrown in jail for doing nothing wrong. If I hadn't read the bi-line that read "Hamilton", I would have easily thought the story was from Beirut or Kandahar. The man in question is Michael Dixon. A break-in...

It's been one of the coldest winters on record here in Hamilton. Several records where broke in February and especially March. I've been documenting the progress of my tulips and daffodils since they first started to poke their heads up through the ground. They even managed to survive two freak...
