30 Years of Star Wars

Friday was the 30th anniversary of the release of Star Wars and the beginning of the Summer blockbuster era. I remember that day in 1977 so well even though I was only seven years old. My sister Cherylanne took me to the old Tivoli Theatre on James Street. We couldn't get in because the movie was PG-13 and my sister didn't turn 13 until September. We went home and our mom took us the next night. We sat in the front row, and from that day until "Return of the Jedi" I had to have the figures... Read Full Story

A big Tiger Cat roar for Leif Petterson

O S K I E - W E E - W E E ! ! !            Leif Pettersen died this week at only 57, the victim of an apparent heart attack. What a shocker. He appeared to be in very good shape. Pettersen joined TSN as a game analyst for the CFL in 1986, the first year the network began televising CFL games. A former CFL receiver, Pettersen was drafted by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 1974 and played in the CFL for eight seasons. In 1976, Pettersen's Roughriders lost one of the most memorable Grey Cups... Read Full Story

A few choice words for those holding Hamilton's growth hostage

The words are the same seven words the brilliant mind of the recently lost George Carlin made us laugh nervously at so many years ago and will never be uttered on this blog. That is where the comparison between the mother f*!@er a!#$oles at the Mayors office, City Hall and Liuna Station ends. Lister Block is dead This week has been a cornucopia of lies, ineptitude and border line corruption down at Hamilton City Hall. Lets start in reverse order, on Friday it was revealed that on this Monday... Read Full Story

A little bit of the flavour of Bartonville

...even if that flavour is a bit off. One of my favourite characters to adorn Barton Street East, here in Hamilton is a young guy who hangs out out front of the liquor store and bank area of the strip mall near Ivor Wynn. To his credit he isn't some bum with their hand out looking for money for booze. No, he's their with his guitar offering up his brand of street performing. Unfortunately he has absolutely no talent. He strums one string on his guitar and belts out some made up song(?) I mean... Read Full Story

A plea to help find a son is not advertising

The mother of a missing Hamilton man says she was shocked. Bill Mason's mom had been ordered to take down hundreds of flyer's about her son, that she posted on hydro poles, because they violate a city bylaw. Donna Dixon says she got the order from police yesterday, after someone complained to city hall. But Councillor Sam Merulla says he's been assured by city staff, the posters will be allowed to stay. Merulla says the the purpose of the bylaw is to prevent cluttering of advertising, and... Read Full Story

Asinine comment shows Councillor Terry Whitehead's true character

as·i·nine [as-uh-nahyn]–adjective 1.foolish, unintelligent, or silly; stupid. "I will not apologize" It is surprising that supposedly intelligent people can make such asinine statement. Councillor Terry Whitehead drew gasps around Hamilton this week when he accused Joanna Chapman of not being objective in her role as a member of the integrity and transparency subcommittee. Chapman was not present in the gallery at the time. The heated exchange started when Brad Clark objected to comments... Read Full Story

Rest in peace Mom and Dad, your loving son. May 7/99 Mom passed on June 29/03 Dad passed on. The love and memories of my parents have inspired my creativety many times. My latest work is entitled "Awash in their Afterglow" Later, Kenaz Read Full Story

Backroom meeting raises the stench of corruption yet again

The only thing missing was the eerie violin music, the stogies and the dimly lit backroom, but all the characters of a scene straight out of the 'Godfather' where present. Sam 'The Bully' Merulla played the lead thug, trying to persuade Bob 'Red Light' Bratina and Brian 'Flip-Flop' McHattie into back tracking on their decision to agree with a transit fare hike. All under the cover of an off camera, extremely fishy out of chambers meeting. Here's how the scene played out. Twenty four hours... Read Full Story
