How To Make Felt Hats

Making felt from knit patterns and then washing to felt is one way to make felt items. However, what does one do when they don't know how to knit? Ah, here is the answer! Wet felt! No equipment needed for simple hats, mittens, scarfs, booties, etc. All you need is ivory soap, hot water, and elbow grease! I like to needle felt my items first..... using foam backing or form to create shape, and felting needles to create a pattern, then wet felt the item to make it stronger. I make beautiful hats and scarfs with a miriad of colors and patterns.... really the sky is the limit... use your imagination! Felting needles and foam can be purchased from any felting supplier. Be careful! Felting needles are extremely sharp! I once put one completely through my finger and out the other side! These should NOT be used by children. However, wet felting is an excellent hobby to share with the kids. The have more energy than we do, and love to get messy in the soapy water!
