UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown faced an open attack from within his Cabinet yesterday for the “lamentable” failure by his Government to communicate with voters. Hazel Blears (pictured above), the Blairite Secretary of State for Communities, said New Labour’s reputation had suffered a “titanic battering” in recent weeks and warned of “dire consequences” if it did not reconnect with the public. But it's on the matter of the stalls and leaflets that I want to speak. Hazel Blears promised to pay back £13,332 which she would have paid in capital gains tax when she sold one of her homes. She said it was her wish to rebuild trust with the British people. She declared a flat in Kennington South London as her primary residence so that she was able to avoid paying capital gains tax on the £45,000 profit she made on the sale of the property however she told the commons authorities it was her second home entitling her to claim hundreds of pounds in expenses.
