The Head of the Charles Regatta is held every October in Boston Ma. It is a premier crew race, and one of the top races in the Fall series. Clubs and colleges send teams to the event. The race runs along Storrow drive, between the MIT boathouse, Harvard, and BU.

The 45th annual Head of the Charles Regatta took place this past weekend. Every October, as many as 300,000 people flock to the banks of the Charles River to witness the historic Head of the Charles regatta. More than 8,800 athletes from all over the world competed in 55 different race events to make the Head of the Charles the largest regatta in the world.

Roughly 300,000 people will gather to watch Boston College compete this week, and the venue will not be Alumni Stadium but the banks of the Charles River. The women's crew team will compete in the historic Head of the Charles Regatta this weekend.
The first regatta took place in 1965 when the Cambridge Boat Club started it, and 45 years later, it attracts more than 7,500 athletes from around the world who compete in over 55 events.

First, the bad news: 39 degrees F, windy, raining hard and steady. Ick.Then, the worse news: the YYM is quite sick, fever, very bad headache, dizzy. He is a scratch from the youth Men's 4 race, which is scheduled for 10:12, but won't go off until 10:20 at earliest. In anyt case, though, the YYM is upstairs in his bed, trying to rest but not really succeeding.But, the coach found a substitute rower, so at least everyone else can still row...

Sure, you can brave the outdoors this weekend to see rowers from around the world on the Charles. Or you can stay inside this afternoon at 2:30 p.m. for the Third Annual Head of the Zesiger Cardboard Boat Regatta. At MIT, of course:
Any thickness of corrugated cardboard is permitted, but waxed cardboard carpet tubes and barrels are not allowed.
Only paper tape may be used. Tape may only be used on seams, joints or patches. DO NOT WRAP THE HULL...
