Heath Ledger died in January 2008.

Heathcliff Andrew Ledger is an Academy Award -nominated Australian actor. In 1999, Ledger starred in the Hollywood teen comedy 10 Things I Hate about You and also had the lead role in the acclaimed Australian movie Two Hands, directed by Gregor Jordan.

He went on to star in The Patriot as Mel Gibson's character's son, Monster's Ball as Billy Bob Thornton's character's son, A Knight's Tale, Ned Kelly as the title character, The Order, and The Brothers Grimm co-starring Matt Damon.

Heath Ledger was found dead in his apartment this afternoon. Holy crap!

He was a pretty big star and that star was getting bigger. His Oscar nomination for Brokeback Mountain made him known to those who didn’t know him before. His portrayal of The Joker in the upcoming Batman film, The Dark Knight, is one of the most anticipated roles for this Summer’s movies.

I knew of him as the guy in 10 Things I Hate About You. That really wasn’t my type of movie, but it seemed to be on cable every time I turned it on. The Patriot is where I knew him from. A Knights Tale (again not my type of movie) was out around then too.

Personally, his role as Skip in the Lords of Dogtown was my favorite role of his. He totally become this character. Reminded me quite a bit of Val Kilmer back in his The Doors days how he embodied the persona of this real person.

Heath Ledger as The Joker Wow. I’m floored at this. Early reports say something about drugs. Not surprised if it is. Happens to the best of them.

Unfortunately there is probably some exec at Warner Brothers smiling over the news. You have a blockbuster just on the verge of opening and a lead actor dies. The free publicity generated now at the time of his death is only going to be repeated shortly before the movie opens.
