NETFLIX PICK OF THE DAY!

Unfortunately, the cover art does not do this camp TV flick justice. It's as silly as hell, but it's the last time La Liz was skinny (don't expect to see that again...not at nigh on 80) and the last time Jane Alexander really worked on screen (unless you watched C-SPAN during the Clinton Years). Together they are Louella Parsons and Hedda Hopper, dueling queens of Hollywood Gossip. This is a fluff piece, with all the makings of an "A" bio-pic (how many tap dancing girls in matching platinum wigs do we see onscreen today) , but falls flat, merely because Hedda and Louella said things in REAL life that could not be said on the small screen. (Hedda, in a nightclub where doves have been dramatically released: "Let's get the hell outta here! One of those birds is gonna shit, and let's hope it's on Louella's bald spot!") The book HEDDA AND LOUELLA by George Ells is far more interesting (Bill Hopper cooperated), but this is just a hell of a great time to waste 95 minutes. Taylor, who knew both, does a pretty bang up job with the Two Faces of Parsons, and Alexander gives just the right amount of glamour and BALLS to play Hopper; Dissed and discarded by the studios as an aging actress....you can imagine the vitriol. A fun Sunday afternoon romp. Better if you know a little more about these two old broads.
