A community portal about Heroin Addictions with blogs, videos, and photos. According to Wikipedia.org: Heroin, also known as diamorphine or diacetylmorphine, is a semi-synthetic opioid. It is the 3,6- diacetyl derivative of morphine and is synthesised from it by acetylation. The white crystalline form is commonly the hydrochloride salt, diacetylmorphine hydrochloride. It mimics endorphins and thus causes a high sense of well-being when entered into the bloodstream. For this reason it can be used both as a pain-killer and a recreational drug. It has a high addiction potential, and frequent administration may cause a rapid development of tolerance by the user, especially when compared to other substances, though occasional use may not lead to symptoms of withdrawal. Internationally, heroin is controlled under Schedules I and IV of the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs. It is illegal to manufacture, possess, or sell heroin in the United States ; however, under the name diamorphine, heroin is a legal prescription drug in the United Kingdom. Popular street names for heroin include gear, diesel, smack, B, skag, Bobby, black tar, horse, junk, jenny, brown, brown sugar, dark, Dope and H.

Author: four_twenny Posted: Tue Dec 08, 2009 9:37 am I am not sure that everyone reacts to the medicine in the same way. I am very recently completely off of everything after being on 120mg methadone maintenance where I held that dose for something like 7 or 8 months. Its probably close to two years ago now that I decided one day to begin tapering. I never knew whether I would make it, I did not have the patience to drop 1 or 2 mg at at time I consistently dropped 5 or 6 milligrams every two weeks all the way down to 44 ... Read Full Story

Author: four_twenny Posted: Tue Dec 08, 2009 10:33 am I think methadone or suboxone in the right situation are absolutely life saving medications, but I did not want to stay on 120mg. I could tell certain things about me were not in my control anymore, I just assumed I was a lifer when I first got on. I felt like I was acting medicated constantly and most of the time I was unaware of the severity of the situation. Now that I'm done it seems like something I cant even put words to. Music sounds better, I dont feel like I'm dragging 500lbs of ... Read Full Story

Author: LatheDude Posted: Sat Dec 05, 2009 5:23 pm Welcome TypeOne! You ask pretty specific questions. I'll try and give you my opinion - I'm not a doctor. I just had a nice chat with someone else, who didn't really understand suboxone as a medication treatment for opiate dependence. Before I jump into the questions and answers, it will help you to do some research about opiate receptors in your body, and learn how suboxone is different than percocet/oxycodone. It will help you to realize that half-life is important for these type of medications. There is a rule of thumb - that it takes ... Read Full Story

Author: LatheDude Posted: Sat Dec 05, 2009 1:05 am hi tenntod - I am a bit surprised that your doctor is having you go back and forth with suboxone and norco. Here's the best scoop I can give (I'm not a doc, so certainly take their advice over this). Norco is an immediate pain reliever. You will have blood level max hit in less than 2 hours (a half life), and has a half life about 4 hours. That is considered a short acting opiate - hydrocodone, or oxycodone (not oxycontin). Suboxone is much different. First it takes longer to get fully up to ... Read Full Story

Most of us have a vague memory that the Taliban actually suppressed the opium crop in 2001 and that under the occupation it has grown exponentially, but you might not have heard that Afghanistan has evolved from merely growing the crops to processing it into heroin.
