Recently we at Purdafash were approached by a DU student who having gone to buy designer clothes ended up finding out that they were crafted by child laborers working long hours, under inhumane conditions and at the end of the day were paid a pittance. Our guest was so appalled that she decided to never go for designer clothes again. This incident set us thinking on two key issues: Firstly- Is elimination of child labor a distant dream? As the stock market crosses the 15,000 mark and is all set to touch the 16,000 mark pretty soon, we at Purdafash received a story from one of our CJs which highlighted how the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) changed the farmers and traders into full time speculators to a stage where today they can’t let go of the MCX terminal even if they want to. As the whole nation goes into a deep tizzy over the murder of Adnan by people he met on orkut, we at Purdafash received reports of Orkut being used to stalk a young girl and harass her family.
