Hilary Swank (born July 30, 1974) is a two-time Academy Award-winning actress. She got her start in Hollywood with a small part in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and then a major part in "The Next Karate Kid," where she played Julie Pierce, the first female protégé of the sensei Mr. Miyagi. She has become known for her two Oscar-winning performances: first as Brandon Teena in "Boys Don't Cry," and a struggling boxer in "Million Dollar Baby." But when my daughter was born back in ’96, I made a marked effort to learn more about women who she might one day find influential for their achievements.
High-flier Amelia Earhart always seemed like an appropriate choice. So it’s convenient that this Friday, October 23, Amelia, a new movie biography starring Hilary Swank as the aviator will open in theatres. And today I’m fortune to have the author of a new book about Earhart join me on the show.
