It was once said that not remembering the Holocaust means to side with the executioners against its victims; not to remember means to kill the victims a second time; not to remember means to become an accomplice of the enemy. On the other hand, to remember means to feel compassion for the victims of all persecutions.

By solemnly commemorating the tragedy of the Holocaust, we will keep history in mind, never forget the past, cherish all lives, and create a better future.

Few write on the history of evolutionary theory as compellingly as John Wilkins. (Had his Species: the History of an Idea and Defining Species: a Sourcebook from Antiquity to Today been available in 2002, I could've avoided years of thankless legwork and finished my dissertation with normative time to spare. Not that I'm bitter.) So I can think of no better way to celebrate the 150th anniversary of...Lawyers, Guns and Money (subscribe) : "And...

The Diary of Anne Frank is, without a doubt, among the most widely-read and influential books in contemporary history. The book ushered in a new wave of Holocaust awareness, and serves as the first exposure to the Holocaust for many, especially young students. As Holocaust survivor Simon Wiesenthal once commented, "People cannot identify with mountains of bodies, but they can with the plight of one 14-year-old child." The Anne Frank House...

The memoirs of the last SS adjutant to Adolf Hitler are to be published in a move historians say could cast away the last shred of doubt over his personal involvement in the Holocaust. Fritz Darges died at the weekend aged 96 with instructions for his manuscript about his time spent at the side of the Führer to be published once he was gone. Darges was the last surviving member of Hitler's inner circle and was present for all major...

What was the overpowering idea that brought forth the paradigm that allowed Hitler and the Nazi party to come into power? Was it the anti-Semitism of the church or was it the ever growing idea of atheistic naturalism? Accounting for the Holocaust, deciphering and explaining the social and moral conditions that led up to it, has prompted all sorts of theories. It is more than an academic question for if the same conditions occur again will we...

So, despite Nava Semel's impeccable credentials as a highly celebrated Israeli writer, daughter of survivors and sister of Israeli singer Shlomo Artzi, the English translation of "And the Rat Laughed" (Hebrew publication in 2001) is...
