The Heart of the Matter
The March edition of the online homeschool magazine, The Heart of the Matter , has just been published. From my brief glance at the titles, this appears to be the best edition yet.
Carnival of Homeschooling
The Carnival of Homeschooling is full of great articles about homeschooling. Palm Tree Pundit scattered facts about the marvelous month of March throughout the blog entries.
Also, the founders of the Carnival of Homeschooling request your vote. Which... Read Full Story
One of the questions for this edition of Unschooling Voices (which will be out later today) was to ask your kids take pictures of their favorite things. Cimion is not here so Jacqueline & Shawna got together and snapped away. They also took pictures of Billy & I (Jacqueline said I was her #1 favorite thing), but neither of us liked how we looked in them. LOL

Parents just cannot help but feel that the quality of public education is somewhat degrading these days. And when it comes to private schooling, this is an extremely expensive alternative. This is precisely why many parents these days resort to considering the option of online homeschooling.
If you are one of the parents who feel a bit hesitant about online homeschooling and how effective a system it is, do not fret. This is normal; after all, it is the future of your own children that is... Read Full Story
Court of Appeal Grants Petition for Re-hearing! On March 25, the California Court of Appeals granted a motion for rehearing in the 'In re Rachel L.' case. The controversial decision which purported to ban all homeschooling in that state unless the parents held a teaching license qualifying them to teach in public schools. The automatic effect of granting this motion is that the prior opinion is vacated and is no longer binding on any one , including the parties in the case. This is good... Read Full Story
A lot of parents wonder if it is possible to take on homeschooling under a budget. So, how to start homeschooling on a right note and yet within your budget? The truth of the matter is, this is indeed highly possible, and hundreds of homeschoolers are indeed doing this with a budget of roughly $600 per student per year. Still, there are a lot of ways for homeschoolers to stick to this budget, or they could even squeeze it out to garner a bit of savings. One good way to do this would be to... Read Full Story
Kelly Lovejoy posted this on an unschooling e-mail list a while back. She was answering someone’s question, which was;
“What exactly is unschooling? I thought it was another name for homeschooling”.
All poodles are dogs, but not all dogs are poodles.
All unschooling is homeschooling, but all homeschooling isn’t unschooling.

I’ve been a homeschooling (unschooling actually) mama since 2004 and I’ve made some “mistakes” along the way, but I always tried to look at them as a learning experience. When the Pass The Torch blog asked homeschoolers for their best tips, I decided to share five of my best ones.
1. Give yourself some time to deschool.
Letting go preconceived notions about school and learning is a gift you can give yourself, and your children. My own deschooling is a work in progress and the more I see... Read Full Story

My nine year old daughter wants to be an astronaut and she’s passionate about astronomy and space. I’ve learned more about the solar system from her than I ever did in in all my years in school.
A few months ago, she and my husband (I call them the two space cadets -lol) were watching Apollo 13 with Tom Hanks and there’s a scene where they were using math concepts to figure out how to bring the capsule back to Earth. Jacqueline asked Billy to pause the... Read Full Story

We recently spent the day checking at the weird and wacky stuff at the Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Odditorium in Orlando . My husband & I had been to the one in Atlantic City but my kids have never been there.
The building was created to look as if it were slipping into a sink hole.
There was lots of puzzles and optical illusions, which my daughters really enjoyed.
