The Atlanta Braves cut ties with future Hall of Famer Tom Glavine, releasing him just a day after throwing six scoreless innings in a rehab start. Glavine, who is recovering from minor elbow surgery, was clocked between 83-86 mph on his fastball. "I don't know what else I can do," Glavine said after Tuesday night's game, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "Physically I felt good and I feel like I'm ready." Glavine is still a couple week away from returning, and it is possible he could get picked up if he wanted to continue pitching. The Nationals would benefit from his presence. This story ... Sun Feb 15th 2009 Two baseball sources told ESPN.com early Saturday that the Atlanta Braves are making a late play for Griffey and have begun discussing money with his agent. "We have interest in several available outfielders, including Griffey," Braves general manager Frank Wren told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution later Saturday. Atlanta, which has been looking for a reasonably priced, veteran outfield bat, lost out to the Los Angeles Angels this week in a bid to sign Bobby Abreu. If the Braves don't sign Griffey, they could turn to veteran Garret Anderson as a fallback. But sources said that Griffey is Atlanta's prime target, and ... Read Full Story

Horacio Ramirez was traded by the Braves last December to the Mariners for pitcher Rafael Soriano . At the time, many wondered why the Mariners would accept such a trade because Soriano is regarded as one of the best late inning relievers in the game. He is just twenty-seven, and was able to hold an ERA under three while he was in the AL. So jumping leagues would probably be even easier for Ramirez, joining a team with solid defense and a favorable ballpark. Ramirez showed promise as a youngster, but began to struggle with age. He hit the disabled list three times during ... Read Full Story

The AJC is still reporting about the one that got away. Rafael Furcal's agents the Wasserman Group dumped us like a bad date, and now the Braves are not going to let it happen again. Guru of deal making, John Schuerholz had this to say in the AJC : Having been in this business for 40-some years, I’ve never seen anybody treated like that,” Schuerholz said. “The Atlanta Braves will no longer do business with that company — ever. I told [agent] Arn Tellem that we can’t trust them to be honest and forthright. I told him that in all my years, I’ve never ... Read Full Story

News today from Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal states that Jose Valverde is leaning towards accepting arbitration from the Astros. This news follows on the heels of reports that Rafael Soriano is also likely to accept arbitration from the Atlanta Braves.  Both the Astros and Braves offered arbitration to their respective closers in the hopes that they would receive draft picks as compensation for their signing elsewhere. Now, the news that both...

As expected, Rafael Soriano accepted arbitration from the Atlanta Braves today, which, while not destroying the Braves offseason, puts a serious crimp in their plans. Soriano has assured himself a nice payday for 2010 (about $8-10M) and has made himself more attractive to other teams by making sure they won't have to give up draft picks for him. The Braves, on the other hand, will not get the two draft picks Soriano would have brought them had...

Just before midnight Monday, Rafael Soriano’s agent said what the Braves did not want to hear: Soriano has accepted the team’s arbitration offer, giving the Braves a high-priced reliever they had already replaced and can’t realistically afford to keep. Mike Gonzalez declined the arbitration offer, but Soriano took it and stands to make between $7 million and $8 million. The Braves will get two compensatory draft picks when Gonzalez signs...

Braves to Non-Tender Kelly Johnson This according to David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Earlier today it looked like the Braves were trying to trade him. He's been discussed around these parts for a long time. Any chance the front office is as interested as we've been?
