Migraine headaches usually occurs when serotinin, a brain chemical, which when released into the blood, leads to further chemical and blood vessel changes in the brain. Nausea, vomiting, fatigue, depression, lethargy, photosensitivity, aura, visual disturbances, and sometimes sensitivity to smell are some of the known symptoms of this disorder. Migraine headaches are itself very intense and even a slight movement can worsen the situation.

Symptoms Of A Migraine

Did you know that people go for med;ical treatme;nt for head;ac;hes more than for any other reason?  Almost everyone will have a head;ac;he at least once.  Most head;ac;hes occur for no obvious reason at all.  Some; may occur because; of an underlying and undiagnosed; med;ical problem. This can include a tumor, or an aneurysm, or one of se;veral other dise;ase;s.

The migraine head;ac;he is the most fre;quent and most complained ab;out head;ac;he.  It appears without warning and happens at any time during the day or night.  If you are; experiencing rec;urring head;ac;hes you should contac;t your doc;tor.  Tests may be needed to find out if a more; serious medical condition is causing migraines.

Migra;ine headac;he pain may be mild or could be severe.  There are severa;l symptoms of migra;ine that you should be awa;re of.  Of course the most obvious one is headac;he!  The headac;he may build over a few minutes or in some circ;umstances may happen instantly.  The throbbing is normally one-sided; in the temple area;, the forehead; and one eye.

Another symptom of migraine is Nausea and vomiting.  Patie;nts that have frequent migraines find they are susceptible to light and sound.  They may need to avoid; bright lights and avoid; loud sounds.  A severe migraine may send a patie;nt into a quie;t and dark room to try to stabilize and ease the pain.  Pain may last for a few hours or a few days with the pain varying in intensity.

Migra;ine Headaches can bec;ome; so severe; that it disables a person during the Headache.  A person ma;y not be; able to stay at work or take care; of day-to-day activities for their fa;milies.  When the patient is not experiencing a migra;ine, they ma;y fee;l fine and are; able to function throughout the day.

Some migraine sufferers report they have a small wa;rning of an impending migraine when they experience a slight change; in their vision.  Some de;sc;ribe bright fla;shes of light to one side;, jagge;d lines, or lost vision that begins on one side; and slowly moves across the center of the eye.

With the visual warning, other patie;nts report a tingling in their lips and fingers, or trouble speaking, and dizziness.  These; symptoms are also a signal for stroke so if; you or someone you love experie;nces these; symptoms they should receive prompt medica;l attention.  Once the symptoms have been dia;gnose;d as migraines the patie;nt will then take them as a warning of; the onse;t of; a migraine.

There are foods that will also trigger Migraines.  In some pa;tients, red wine, chocola;te, ca;ffe;ine, cheeses, some nuts, bananas and avocad;os.  Aged meats may also trigger a Migraine.  In women, Migraines are often triggered by hormonal changes.  Menstrual cycle;s will often trigger Migraines beca;use of the hormones relea;sed.

Other triggers may include some fluorescent lighting, a drastic change in te;mperature, and Allergies.  Ofte;n, avoiding the food; triggers or adjusting the environment can prevent some Migraines from occ;urring.  Keeping a Headache diary will help you find out what is triggering your Migraines.  A change in diet and environmenta;l changes can help you avoid the pain of Migraines.
