Stereotype Friday
I was coming to work this morning and passed a living, breathing stereotype: The House Wife Who Has Given Up. She was out on the front lawn dressd in a ratty pick terrycloth house coat, hose in hand, slowly watering the sorriest excuse for a lawn outside of Afghanistan.
She was wearing fuzzy slippers and her hair was rolled up into big curlers. The only thing missing to complete the image was a half smoked cigarette dangling from her lower lip.
If I was to suggest such a character for a commercial, I'd be laughed at for being too unrealistic, trite. mysogynistic and predictable. "That kind of image for women went out in the 50's", the Ad Execs would say. Yet there she was.

- Cheerful Shoe Shine Boy Street Urchin
- Overweight Guy Wearing Wifebeater, Drinking a Beer While Riding Lawn Tractor
- Beautiful Hooker With the Heart of Gold
- Down on His Luck Southern Landowner Wearing White Suite and Ribbon Tie
Or maybe I should get back on the meds.
