MMeM, Vol. 5 Issue 5 - Welcome!

...a nice uplifting message. H ave you noticed how cities are using those light and telephone pole banners more and more today? They are pretty neat I guess. Usually, you can find them lining the main thoroughfare through a city or town. Cities use them in a variety of ways, but mostly they offer a nice uplifting message welcoming visitors and tourists to the area. They are usually very bright and colorful, evoking a positive image of the city and surrounding area. Local merchants use them... Read Full Story

MMeM, Vol. 4 Issue 6 - Bathroom Humor, part 1

God help me if that hook ever were to break off!" D oes anyone know why this is the case? I'm sure that there is a good reason, but I don't know what it is. Why do bathroom stall doors open inward? I mean you already have to navigate public restrooms like you're walking through a biohazard facility which is actively incubating the latest and greatest version of the avian bird flu virus. So why do you have to straddle the toilet upon leaving the stall? I mean when the stall door opens there... Read Full Story

MMeM, Vol. 5 Issue 3 - Size Matters

...bigger is not always better A while ago, I was asked to run to the store to pick up a few items for an upcoming family dinner. More specifically, I was told that we needed a soup bone for use in a soup of all things. While shopping for the soup bone, it occurred to me that I had no idea what a soup bone was or how to pick one out. Was it pork, beef? I always knew there was a section of the meat cases that housed the unmentionables, i.e. pigs feet, ears, joints, and organs. However, I... Read Full Story

MMeM, Vol. 4 Issue 23 - Discrimination

I say bring it ...on non-windy days T here is a great injustice that is going un-checked in American society today. It is gender discrimination and it's time that someone shined a light on this horrible miscarriage of justice and inequality. I'm speaking of work dress codes. Specifically, no shorts for dudes. Total discrimination. Women can't wear shorts either...or can they? It is amazing what passes as NON-shorts for women. Apparently, nothing is technically "shorts", so they can wear... MMeM, Vol. 5 Issue 1 - You've Gone Too Far

That is until we take it too far A round the world, local cities and communities work hard to promote themselves in order to attract tourists. It's like, Nashville has country music, Dallas has all things cowboys, Los Angeles has showbiz, Chicago has taxes, and well here in Springfield, IL we have Lincoln. Lincoln, Lincoln, Lincoln. Everywhere, everything has some mention or connection to Lincoln. People who are from here get pretty immune to all the Lincoln references. So much so, that you... Read Full Story

MMeM, Vol. 4, Issue 7 Bathroom Humor part 2

...suddenly my problems don't seem all that horrific. E ver think YOU have it rough? Do you ever think people don't understand all that you go through on a daily basis? Consider this scenario. - You're a male. Ok, obviously strike #1 and judging by some of the female readers of this blog, I could probably end the scenario right here. But anyway... - You're responsible for a child in a diaper. - Said child does their business in said diaper and you have to change it. - A female child... Read Full Story

MMeM, Vol. 4 Issue 14 - Hypermiling

well here is a concept I can get behind S o, I saw on CNN.com the other day this article that had this headline: "Behind the Scenes: 'Hypermilers' test limits of fuel conservation" The dropline next said that Wayne Gerdes was getting more than 50mpg in his conventional non-hybrid car. I thought, "well here is a concept I can get behind." Well it turns out that Mr. Gerdes has a website called cleanmpg.com . I clicked on the link and was anxiously anticipating some of the secrets to get great... Read Full Story

MMeM, Vol. 4 Issue 8 - Road signs all askew

Gee, what a wierd thing to see !?! R ecently, I was driving through Missouri when I ran across some very odd road signs. I thought it was funny that this "Road Work" sign was half in the ground. Gee, what a wierd thing to see!?! "Crazy Kids" I thought. I kept driving. Next, I see what appears to be a "45 MPH" sign upside down in the dirt. Okey-dokey...looks like the local jokesters had a late night. Those kids! "Left Lane Closed Ahead"...wait a second! What the...? This is getting ridiculous... Read Full Story

MMeM, Vol. 4 Issue 21 - Currency

I would rather have five pennies than one nickel A nnouncing the motion to get rid of the U.S. 5 cent piece, otherwise known as, the nickel. The nickel. Are you kidding me? This stupid thing is bigger than a dime yet is worth less than a dime. It's the fattest of all the U.S. coinage so it can't be used as screwdriver when you're in a pinch. It has NO ridges on it. Perhaps most perplexing is that it costs $0.0953 to make one and yet a nickel has $0.06013 in metal content. How... Read Full Story

MMeM, Vol. 4 Issue 4

"Uh, wait a second, let me look at that again..." H ave you ever wondered where all the people living in these McMansions everywhere work? I mean, how are so many people able to afford such luxurious accommodations these days? I'm not a hater, I've just been curious about this for a long time. Everywhere you look there is another high-end super-deluxe subdivision being constructed. More power to those that can afford those houses, but seriously, what do they do to earn a living? Well today... Read Full Story
