2011 Hurricane Names

By Bill Hartzer on  From us-mex.org
This weekend, as we watch and hope that Hurricane Irene does not do a lot of damage up and down the East Coast of the United States, I start thinking of the hurricane names for this year. We are here in August 2011 and we already are on Hurricane Irene, the ninth name and the 9th tropical storm of the year. In prior years, I remember Hurricane Fay and a few others that contained names long before the letter I of the alphabet. So, let’s take a look at the 2011 Hurricane Names, as well as...Read Full Story

Tropical Storm Fay - Two Months Later!

By Marc Grossman on  From realestatecracker.com
It’s incredible the devastation incurred by Tropical Storm Fay as she slowly swept through Florida.  Normally, with a Tropical Storm or Hurricane, we’re hit with sporadic rain from the bands.  But not with Fay.  It was a consistent bombardment of rain.  Daily rain totals consistently went into double digits.  In the 20+ years that I’ve lived in Central Florida, I never before witnessed this.  The following are some pictures that I took today, October 19, 2008, of homes on Lake Jessup in...Read Full Story

Tropical Storm Earl Looms as Hurricane Frank Heads to Sea

By Manja on  From blippitt.com
The National Hurricane Center upgraded one tropical depression in the Atlantic Ocean to Tropical Storm Earl on Wednesday. Experts at the Center predict that the new storm could reach hurricane status as early as Friday. Tropical Storm Earl currently packs winds of up to 40 miles per hour, but no coastal warnings have yet been issued. Meanwhile, Hurricane Frank packed winds of up to 75 miles per hour, making that storm a Category One hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale, the National...Read Full Story

Bad Movies and Tropical Storm Fay

By tammy1999 on  From tagleenterprises.com
Blog Prompt: Tell about the worse movies you have ever seen. I cannot deal with the “F” word being said every other word in a movie, so I stay away from them if possible.  To say I have seen a really bad movie lately, I would have to say no.  I usually check out the movie before I watch it.  I have seen good movies using the “F” word a lot and it was really hard for me to watch it, but the story was really great!  I just can’t be open minded when it comes to that. I want to be entertained...Read Full Story

Tuesday’s Rambling Thoughts – August 19, 2008

By David on  From davidsmusingsthoughts.blogspot.com
Tropical Storm Fay . We may or may not get hit by Tropical Storm Fay. Current forecasts call for it to drift up the western coastline of Florida before crossing over the panhandle into Georgia. Right now, we are praying Tropical Storm Fay doesn’t become Hurricane Fay. I’m sure the people in Florida are praying for this also. What we fear is if the storm stalls in the gulf. That would be something we do not want to see. It would gather strength in the warm gulf and, as those that followed the...Read Full Story

Saint Simons during Fay

By Merrill Guice on  From insidethenest.com
A friend of mine, Dade Brantley, just posted video of what Tropical Storm Fay looked like over on Saint Simons Island. I go over there a lot and it was eye opening to see the flooding. Imagine what it would look like if a Tropical Storm or Class One Hurricane made landfall. The seven minute piece opens with him driving over the causeway to the island. Then he goes to the village and shoots the waves crashing over the seawall and into the land. We get to see some houses and cars flooded and he...Read Full Story

Tropical Storm Fay on Pine Island

By Erika Foye on  From pineislandtimes.blogspot.com
This morning Tropical Storm Fay is inland, about 30 miles east of Ft. Myers, 45 miles east of Pine Island. We're having some blustery winds (about 30 mph) and scattered bands of rain. Lots of hurricane prep was done yesterday, but there appear to be no consequences from the storm, not even branches down. Tropical Storms are often the equivalent of "snow days" up north, a chance to take a day off from normal responsibilities, maybe we'll go bowling or to a movie! Here is a photo taken at...Read Full Story
